BambinA
Daniel Craig to be new James Bond Bristish actor Daniel Craig will replace Pierce Brosnan as the new James Bond BY A CORRESPONDENT British Star Daniel Craig, who acted in Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth, has been chosen for the coveted James Bond role replacing Pierce Brosnan. Daniel Craig is 37 years old. He was named British actor of the year by the London Film Critics Circle in early 2005. Daniel Craig earnd this honour for his role in the movie Enduring Love. Pierece Brosnan has been James Bond for quite some time now, and the job was rumoured to be coveted by another British actor British actor Clive Owen as well as Daniel Craig. However, Owen has denied this, as he felt that the role of James Bond is too limiting. That is true - it is still difficult to think about Pierce Brosnan as anyone toher than James Bond, however great his acting may be. Other names mentioned at different times in connection with the 007 role included Eric Bana, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor, Dougray Scott and Australian Hugh Jackman. A versatile performer, Craig was named British actor of the year by the London Film Critics Circle earlier this year for his role in the Ian McEwan thriller 'Enduring Love'. In 2004, daniel Craig played a cocaine dealer in Matthew Vaughn's gangster thriller 'Layer Cake' and poet Ted Hughes, opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, in 'Sylvia'. Daniel Craig was born Chester in 1968. Craig grew up in Liverpool and trained at London's National Youth Theatre and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Fellow students included Ewan McGregor and Joseph Fiennes. It was a BBC BBC Two series called Our Friends in the North in 1996 that launched Daniel Craig's career. Elizabeth and The Trench earned him critical accalim. In 2001, Daniel played ex-boyfriend to Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. he also had a much applauded performance in Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition playing Paul Newman's psychotic son. Daniel Craig's most recent noted film has been The Mother, in which Craig played the lover of his girlfriend's 64-year-old mother. That is quite a journey from being Lara Croft's ex-boyfriend to James Bond 007! Spit the Dog
I've never heard of this guy. From the actors that were mentioned for the role, I would have gone for Hugh Jackman or Clive Owen to be the next James Bond. It appears that none of the well known movie stars want to play Bond anymore.
jackr
Doesn't quite look the part. PLace a bottle in a brown paper bag in his arms and he looks like he's been parked on a park bench all winter in these pics. Weren't they talking about Robbie Williams at one point, or was that just spin for the video he was making...Millenium? I think Craig's one up from the 'fat boy from take that' if it was true
mrbojangles
James Bond is supposed to be able to pull the birds. This Guy couldn't "Trap" his finger in a door
chonabot
He's a very good actor , in fact better than the previous James Bonds ( except Sir Connery ) I think these days the film is more important than the role however. He was excellent in Layer Cake and shagged a few decent bints in real life.... Boo
I've liked him since "our friends in the north" was on tele. a really good actor & I like em a bit rough looking, I can't stand pretty boys & clive owens got funny legs Isn't the word now that they are going to go back to the original style bond, less ladies man & more actual killer & spy, more dark & brooding & not so roger moore/pierce brosnan, smoothy? bkkmadness
First I doubted it but now I think he'll be a good Bond. He was great in Layer Cake so expect good things from him, shame the films aren't as 'up to scratch' these days. Gotta be said though, hes got as tough job, I think most people would agree Brosnans a hard act to follow.

I don't mind who becomes James Bond, but I wish the jouno would do a little research, I counted 3 Ausies in that list, wiht Heath Ledger as the suspect one, but we claim him like we claim anyone else who has spent a lot of time in Au. Kerryd
They offered it to me, but I had to say no. Bambi, I can still be your toyboy though: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I saw a picture of this guy, the first thing I thought of was he'll be the first IRA Bond. Clive looks more suited to playing the part of a villainous IRA member than Bond. Could you imagine Sean Bean playing Bond ? (Not really possible after playing a Bond villain though). I even saw an article that noted Hugh Grant as a possible ! As for the role of Bond being "too limiting", well, I remember Brosnan from his days as "Remington Steele" (TV detective show). It was because of the contract he had for that show, that he didn't become Bond after Moore (Timothy Dalton got it instead). Brosnan has done a few movies since his last Bond, including the remake of The Thomas Crowne Affair (quite a steamy sex scene with Rene Russo in that one). He also did one called Sunsets or something, with Salma Hayek and Woody Harrelson. Any ways, once they get Clive into make-up and wardrobe, you'll hardly recognize him, and he'll surely look more "Bond-like" by the time Casino Royale hits the screens. ProfessorFart
This guy can actually act which is a first for a Bond actor........ Why they are remaking Casino Royale I'm at a loss to explain, but Craig will be a million times better than Brosnan who was more wooden than an oak tree!
