Hey, quick question. I was born in Bangkok to a Thai mother and I have a Thai birth certificate. I was adopted by American parents when I was 1 year old, and became a US citizen. Can I gain Thai citizenship again easily, or do I need to go through the steps that a normal person (who is not of Thai descent) does?

With the Thai BC you are already Thai. I know a few people in your position and the fact they were adopted to foreign parents hasn't extinguished their Thai nationality.

You will just need to apply at the nearest Thai consulate or embassy for a Thai passport using your Thai BC as evidence. If you go by another name these days you may have to have the passport issued iin your original Thai name until you can formally change your name in Thailand.

I suspect it may involve more paperwork than that just BC without having Thai birth mothers paperwork; but hope I am wrong?

The Thai birth certificate is enough and proves one is Thai. It is the birth certificate for which one needs the details and cooperation of both parents.

But I presume he had his name changed, in that case the OP also need documents to proof the change of name.

I did have my name changed, and do have those papers here somewhere. So that is all I need to obtain a Thai passport? My Thai birth certificate and proof of name change? That is pretty sweet if it is true.

Yes, it should be that straight forward.

Contact the embassy to see which documents they will ecaxtly require and download the passport form. But basically this will be all the documents you need.
