Hi,

Lets say I walk in to a 2nd hand car dealer and buy a car. The car is a Toyota with greenbook and all. However, I don't like the look of the car so I bring it to a shop who replaces hood, bumpers, doors, basically everything external that can be taken off. When he's done, it has no resemblance to the original car. In fact, it might look like another car brand. Is this doable/legal in Thailand? Basically the "inside" of the car is still original, with original motor and chassis.

I'd be very happy to know how the law is on this.

Thanks!!

This is still registered as a Toyota Crown.

Excellent. Thanks for that Spoonman.

Remember the scanned reg book on this one

It is also still registered to seat 4, 2 front and 2 in rear seat

In general you can mod your car as you want, no E or DOT or crash safety regulations here, and when its inspected and approved by DLT changes are noted in page 18 and photos of car filed.

Even a change of color must be approved

Even a change of color must be documented would be better, otherwise the DLT will be flooded with people asking can i respray my vehicle .

Why is the reg book scanned on this one?

I saw this "Ferrari" for sale online at 1.123 mB, or was it 1.3mill can't remember... the interior is sooo ugly, needs a big job.

Out of intrest, do you know what it is worth or the cost to do it.

seller asking 1,2-1,3million as I recall

and there is no indication (reg book page 18) the "mods" have been approved, IOW no docs on where "parts" are sourced to transform a 40 year old Toyota Crown to a Ferrari

seller has provided scans of reg book

it may make you believe vehicle is approved as "Ferrari"

it sure clears sellers back as you know you buy a 4 door, 2 seatrow, 40 year old Toyota

Clever ;)

I guess he was able to source those body parts because it was one of the most common Ferrari's to be sold.

I wouldn't care what the interior was like.:D

So as for the paperwork is it being used on the road now legally then ?.

I think its cool :P

Subaru 2,0 boxer is legally installed

Legal, doubt it, need to see reg book page 18 and translate it, but most likely to work with BiB, and would pass annual inspection in an authorized garage.

With the Subaru engine in it it makes it even more desirable, I'd stick some red plates on and drive along side the owner of the Audi sports, just for the crack. B)

hey, I am the one accused for beeing an attention seeker

It comes with white plates and Toyota chassinumber and Subaru engine number in book, so why red plate?

I would assume its very close to legal, just some sloppy DLT work to not erase rearseat and Toyota homoleg-code

I don't think this guy has 1 original Ferrari part on that car, it's probably a 348TS glass fiber kit that is sold both here and there. The kits fit best on Toyota MR-2 and Pontiac Fiero, as they both have rear/mid engine and the dimensions are very near Ferrari.

agreed

and thats why an old Crown chassie has been used, easy to extend or shorten chassie to achive needed wheelbase. and using a car does not trigger extra excicetaxes, using a pickup chassie would

In our village there are not many westerners, so it's my wife really that seems to get all the stick from the locals thinking I am a multi millionaire, I would like to borrow a Ferrari put some red plates on it and tell everyone we are just off to our villa overlooking the sea in Phuket. I like a wind up.

A better wind up would be to put a set of British plates on it, that will really screw up some people .

Out here in the boonies a farmer has a Ford tractor with Brit plates still on it - 'E' reg, about 87 I think!?.

Often passes me when I'm out with the hounds, makes me think of the home country!
