Downloading Advice

So I've got a heuge empty fileing system and can't find where the filles are going

I want to get all downloads going to a file on my start menu

Okay, I think I have a better understanding of what you want.

On the Start Menu if you don't have 'My downloads' displayed or if you have 'My Downloads' shown but clicking on it does not open a Windows Explorer window do this:

1. On a blank area of the Start menu, right click and select Properties
2. A window will open. Under the Start Menu tab click the 'Customize...' button.
3. Another window will appear.
4. Scroll down to Downloads
5. Select 'Display as a link'
6. Click OK and the window will close.
7. Click Apply
8. Click Ok and the window will close.

Now when you click on Start button and then 'My Downloads', a Windows Explorer window will open to the 'My Downloads' Folder.

By default FDM should have created sub-folders in this folder associated with the Groups in FDM. I've long forgotten what the default groups are. I think they are Music, Other, Software, and Video. Opening the associated folder, your files are there.

Music files will be Music folder, Videos will be in the Video folder, Software files will be in the Software folder and anything else will be in the Other folder.

What is happening now is that I get the video from the wwebsite to FDM

but cannot get them to start downloading.

I will take out all the subfolders out of the downloads folder on the start menu.

the thing now is how do I get them to start

I use Orbit as a DM (very good - free and captures YouTube etc with right click direct from the browser - and aso takes over for IE/FF DM) - for Torrent, still think the ebst is old failthful µTorrent (uTorrent).

The reason they won't start is because the sub-folders don't exist.

Open FDM from the desktop.

For each group:

1. Right click on the group
2. Select 'Group Properties'
3. Edit the Default Folder by deleting the Characters after 'My Downloads\' i.e. 'Video\' for the Video group, etc...
4. Right click on the group again
5. Select 'Open Group Folder'
6. Windows Explorer should open to the My Downloads folder. If not re-edit the Default Folder again.

The downloads should start now that there is a folder to download to.

I'm not mackeing as much progress as yesterday.

The folders on windows 7 are new to me.

My old XP had New Downloads on the start menu

you clicked it and a folder opened with my downloaded filles in it.

Now I open anything on the start menu and there is another world inside

the folder including libraries.

I don't need any of this and never will.

Do you know how to open a simple folder on windows 7,

I want to replace all the folders in my start menu with the old

fashioned empty folders.

You can pin any folder to the Start menu. This tutorial will show you how.

It's crazy,I'm trying to learn how to download and still don't

know how to use the fileing system,

Anyway,I've got a folder on my start menu.

Now when I try to download with fdm it says,

no flash videos found,check if they are playing,

but they are playing,

what's next........

But now I think I have everything sorted.My download manager is in.

I have a file for it and If can work it.everythings set except.............

When I point the cursur off the video screen and right click I get a menu with download with fdm om it.

When I press here a window opens saying

It is playing but I can"t pick it up.

I'm nearly there, aren't I

You are talking in vague terms using poor English.

I find it very difficult to understand what you are saying.

As I mentioned a few days ago, there appears to be incompatibility issues with the Beta releases of FDM and Firefox 5 regarding flash video stream captures. However other kinds of downloads seem to work. At least I haven't seen a problem.

I just downloaded the latest Beta release of FDM 3.8 (build 1051) and it doesn't appear to be fixed yet. You can check periodically for new Beta releases of FDM and see if your problem gets fixed.

Or for YouTube, you can use an alternate downloader, but they won't work with flash videos on other sites such as topdocumentrys.com

Sorry. As of now, I don't have any good suggestions for you.
