Looks like I need a Non-B visa for my temporary assignment here. Since it's balls to the wall already, is KL my best bet? I assume I don't qualify for a multi- since there's no WP yet? Do I get a single Non-B and then work on extensions to cover the 5 months of temporary work? My past assignments (with different clients) were done and dusted within 3 months so never became an issue. Plus I used to get my multi Non-B's in Houston but no time for that this time.

As a Brit, will Hull (or another UK consulate) do a multi-B? I could squeeze a quick round-trip that way.

So, in recap... Single or Multi Non-B single and get it issued in KL or Hull (or anywhere else in the region)?

Is a sponsors letter all I need? That was sufficient a few years back but may need more these days?

Many thanks,

NL

In the region you will not get a multiple, maybe not even a single without a WP3 form (which signals that you have applied for a WP at he labour office and will get one when you have the right visa).

For a multiple Hull or Australia (Brisbane) might do.

Looks like there's a problem with the Hull RTC's download site; can't get that latest aba visa pack to open, says it's corrupted. That's using Firefox anyways.

I do have a 1-year Non-O in my other passport but my Client's government affairs lady says that it's not suitable for a WP or temp WP anymore. The old aba visa pack I have (dated 2007) says a Non-O would be OK.... changes?

I guess she needs to submit a WP application and give me a copy of the WP3 'receipt' which I can take to KL... or Hull with a sponsoring letter?

If you are on an extension of stay basd on marriage, there is no problem obtaning a work permit without getting a new non-B visa.

Only if you have a non-O with an extension of stay based on retirement will there be a problem.

Thanks Mario. I am not on any extensions of stay. It's a multi Non-O that I got in KL last year as my wife is Thai and we live here. I use it to come and go when I work on other SE Asian jobs; never stay more than the 90-days they stamp me in with (busy, busy, busy). This time, the job is in Bangkok and likely to run until November.

Hull's download button seems to be functional now:

For KL in addition to the Invitation letter and copy of the WP3 Receipt, you had better take a photo less than 6 months old, a signed copy of the relevant passport pages plus the below items, all marked with the company stamp and countersigned by the Company Director:

1) Copies of the company registration documents, list of shareholders and balance sheet.

2) Copy of the employment contract stating the reason for employing a foreigner.

3) Copy of latest audited accounts/balance sheet.

4) Copy of the VAT Registration Certificate (PP20).

5) Copy of a list of all foreign employees in the company.

6) Map showing office location.

For KL 2) - 6) may not be taken when supplied, but they are KL's list of requirements.

It could be worthwhile obtaining a copy of the the Letter of Acceptance from Labour (Penang for example is now insisting that this to be supplied, along with a copy of the WP3 receipt; though currently KL is not asking for this document).

Thanks Mac, seems like the problem is with Firefox downloader as it didn't get the file extension and I assumed it was a pdf file. Chrome got the Word document first time.

Also thanks dck for that very comprehensive KL wants list.

Since the Client's government lady says my current Non-O will NOT be usable and to avoid that old chestnut of telling a senior Thai employee that she may be incorrect (as well as the time wasted) I am thinking of getting a Non-B multi from Hull as I have a full Brit passport. I have just emailed them to check if they can and do issue such but does anyone have recent experience in getting a multi Non-B from Hull or other Thai consuls in the UK? Since I am pretty busy these next 2-3 weeks, I was planning sending my second Brit passport to Hull and carry on in the office here. When the other passport comes back (hopefully) with a multi Non-B, I will do a work-related trip to Singapore or KL and then re-enter Thailand and use the passport with the Non-B at that point onwards.

Thanks,

NL

So, just to bump this one, has anyone picked up a multi Non-B from Hull recently and what was the supporting paperwork needed?

I can courier my spare passport and application to my sister in Lancashire and she can send/receive the Hull application and then courier it back to me here, ready to use for my next entry into LOS.

You are applying for a visa for Thailand while you are in Thailand. That might not be a wise idea. It might be wiser to send the passport and recieve it back while outside of Thailand.

I see where you are coming from Mario and there's been enough reprimands on the forum about the total illegality of sending your ONLY passport out of the country for a Thai visa whilst you remain in the country, if it is your ONLY passport and the one that is recorded on the Imm computers upon entry. However, this is my second passport which is in the safe and hasn't been used for the current Thai entry. Sending it from/to Bangkok or Singapore isn't really an issue apart from avoiding the cost and time of extra trips out of Thailand to send and receive it.

But before I do that, I need to know if a multi Non-B is possible in Hull. There was a 'message undelivered' response to my email but reading some threads here, it does appear that phoning them is a better option. Charging the Skype phone now!

Thanks!
