Hi, I lost my UK passport and have now got a replacement.I was also sent a letter from the UK embassy asking for Thai immigration to transfer my non imm o multi entry visa into my new passport.I had photocopies of my old passport data page, the actual visa and my stamp entering the country(1st stamp of year visa) but they said they cannot do it.Instead they have put a stamp until the date originally in my old passport and have to get a new visa after this date.Im pretty sure this is nonsense as I know people who have had this done with the same circumstances.Have I followed the correct procedure and are there other options open to me.If so what are they. Thanks in advance

Transfer of visa is not done. All that can be entered in new passport is current permitted to stay and the information from the visa that allowed it. If you had a multi entry visa it is lost.

What Immigration can do is transfer an extension of stay so if you were on a one year extension that could have been entered into the new passport (that is there stamp) but they can not do such for a Consulate issued visa.

On what basis was your visa issued? If for Thai wife you can obtain a new one in KL with proof of 100k in bank account.

Thanks for the info.Yes it was based on my wife but its probably better for me to go to Vientiene.I think I can get a 2 month double entry visa there which will suit my needs.I can also throw in a visit to some friends.

As said your Visa is lost and you will have to apply for another one. :(

I am a bit confused by your answer.

I have my new passport so .I thought I would need to visit immigration in CM for transfer of stamps etc. My original Thai tourist visa was issued in Singapore Dec 2006. this was replaced by an Non O visa issued at CM Feb 2007....subsequent years up to Dec 2010 I obtained permission to stay stamps. From what I thought I had read on the forum I would need to take both new and old passports and all the nessesary data would be entered in the new one....so when my annual extension comes up this coming December all the nessesary info for the immigration officers would be in the new passport.

But reading this particular forum post I think you are saying that I have to leave Thailand and start all over again with either a tourist or Non O visa'

Perhaps you could confirm either way ??

We are talking about a Consulate issued multi entry visa - not immigration extensions of stay. Extensions of stay are entered into the new passport. So what you thought was correct - your information will be entered into new passport.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

But....I guess I will still need to keep the old pasport when reporting....90 day and annual extension, since Immigration require copies of the passports entry stamp. No trouble with the entry card of course since it is detachable.

It needs to be transferred but on visa they they seem to be able to do this at airports now as part of the departure process (but have not seen any official word from Immigration).

For above post the reference to original visa entry is made in the new passport so only the new passport will be required for further extensions of stay.

Had recently been issued a new passport by my Embassy in Bangkok, as the old was was full.

Embassy told me to go to Immigration to have my stamps transferred to the new one.

I am currently on a Multi-O Visa, with current 3 month stay.

Immigration Pattaya told me they can't (or won't) transfer anything, I should use both passports now.

Rastaputin: odd. Keep up posted as to what unfolds.

My USA passport had 9 months left on it. To renew a passport in America has become a big hassle in recent years, re: long delays,

lost passports, etc.

ACS(American Citizenship Services) in BKK issued me a new USA passport. They state it will take 16 days. No, more like a brand 10-year new passport in 7 days for $100. USD. Amaziningly good service.

I also rec'd an official notarized letter from the US Embassy noting all.

I went to Soi 5 Immigration in Pattaya and transferred the 2 months remaining on old Long Term Visa to new passport (no charge).

Then, a month goes by and I reapplied and obtained new 1 year visa and paid for multiple entry stamp. Good for another year.

My expired (Old) US passport was punched by US Embassy prior to signing and obtaining new passport.

I presented both to Soi 5 Immigration for the visa transfer. I thought there would be a fee for this, not so.

A new visa or a new extension of stay?

I thought embassies and consulates issued visas and Immigrations granted permission to stay or extension of stay??

I had about 9 months left on my passport too. ACS came to Phuket in September and I paid for a passport renewal. At that time they didn't return new passports by mail on the outreach program, but they do now. I just emailed them to bring my new passport when they came back in December and picked it up. Then I went by immigration and had the guy i know there transferred my extension over to my new passport for free. Of course he loves to give me grief and said that now I have to carry two passports or that it will be a 1,000 Baht for the transfer. But I did have to go make a copy of my new passport for my 90 day report. So, it ended costing me a few Baht...

Having just gone through this procedure of renewing a Brit passport the following may be of some interest .

As I live in a remote area not served by DHL,who have previously declined to deliver to my house in Suphanburi ,near the Chai Nat border,I chose to go to Penang where I have relatives ,to carry out my transaction with the Hong Kong based Consulate General . I sent my old passport which still had 5 years validity ,but no pages left, from the DHL ,Pulau Tikus ,office

True to their website word my new passport arrived after 5 weeks, together with the old document ,its corners neatly lopped off.!

In the interim I had spoken to the Hon Brit Consul in Penang , about the necessity of transferring the Non O visa from my old p/port to the new one .

His view confirmed my suspicions ......the visa should be transferred to the new document before making the trip back to Thailand .

A trip to the Thai consulate in Penang yielded the information that their counter provided no such service as visa transfer from document to document ..They'd never come across it !....however they could provide a new Non O multi entry visa for another 550 Ringgit if I desired !

A further call to the Brit Consul then ensued ,who suggested I speak to someone higher up the chain .This only resulted in my getting an identical response from the vice consul.himself.

I finally made the trip by rail and was delighted at Padang Besar to be approached by a polite young lady officer whilst I was queueing at the Thailand entry kiosk,

She took me aside and manually transcribed my visa details from my old passport to page one of my new passport .and gave me the statutary 90 days

My exit stamp from Malaysia ,despite my request that it be put on page one, was stamped on page three !

One satisfied traveller !

Quod erat demonstrandum !

To use the visa you must present both passports on entry or obtain a new visa. Not a major issue for most people. It is the same with the 10 year US visa (which may mean you have to carry two passports for many years rather than the short one year of Thai visas).

things are getting a bit mixed up between "A Visa" and "entry stamp" A Visa issuded and afixed in an old passport can not be tranfered to a new passport The entry stamp in the old passport can be tranferd to the new passport free of charge
