I have my two teenage children coming out from Aussie for September school holidays . Have booked a few days at Koh Kradon for snorkelling beach experience but was thinking about doing a two day tour to Tiger temple, elephant riding, River Kwai etc.

Anyone recommend a good reliable tour company ???

Whats good whats not...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

cheer

I would never go to Tiger Temple after viewing pictures of some of the tigers and reading about their general neglect and abuse as reported by others. If you do a quick search you will see what i mean. I wouldn't ride an elephant either after viewing how some of these elephants are trained to perform. Engaging in an activity that at times leads to hitting an elephant with a sharp stick is not what I would want to be associated with. From what i have gathered, Thailand does not generally care about animal cruelty so i just avoid the animal performance venues.

well said it is truly disgusting what is done to these elephants while they ate young to get them to behave as adults and yes the tiger temple is let's say many people are concerned with what is happening there

I actually didn't ask for your opinion rather asked for recommendatsions on a reputable tour company. Why did you think I would be interested in your opinion. IF i had of wanted it I would have asked for opinions on tiger temple and elephant riding ?

You asked what is good and what is not. If you consider animal cruelty good I can only pity you. You sound like an angry little man.

I agree Tiger temple is no good, have been there once and will never do it again but the Erawan falls and hell fire pass is fantastic and I am sure your teenage kids would enjoy them both.

Hellfire pass for its history and pain the Australian soldier went through.

Erawan falls for the relaxation and scenes a great place to swim and relax for a day.

It is people like the original poster (monty1412) that perpetuate the horror that is happening to Thailand's wildlife. Your insensitivity to the plight of these animals is abhorrent.

Apart from thanking Robbo 1 for his thoughts and suggestions , I really couldn't be bothered replying to the other notes as i just think its sad. As a newbie to the board you ask questions , post points and then to get back a load of refuse such as "angry little man" and "abhorrent insensitivity to animals" etc and it is just an indictment on those people who write them. Did you ever stop to think that maybe just maybe I can show two young people what is going on up there and use it as a learning lesson.

The propensity for people such as kirk0233 to proffer up his unrequested opinion then once challenged denigrate to personal attacks is pitiable. But as the old proverb goes " empty vessels make the most noise".

It would be a better board if people legitimately wanted to help and in the absence of having anything constructive to say then say nothing.

I've seen some great posts on the board and some great humour but unfortunately my post with exception of aforementioned thanks to robbo1 must have attracted the " shallow end of the gene pool" member section.

As to insensitivity to animals.. not at all.. it depends how they are cooked.

Robbo 1 mentioned Tiger temple is not good either. Why are you so sensitive? Yes, your daughters will have a learning experience in animal cruuelty. Good for them and by the way, I ask you once again to read your post in which you asked for what is good and bad. This is legitimaye help, but apparently you don't care about animal cruelty and don't care to read suggestions that some venues you might want to go to engage in this.

Hi Monty,

Tell them all to go to hell & get a life. Have been to tiger temple, interesting day out included Bridge over river Kwai tour & quite a few other things. Sorry I can't remember tour company. Was booked through tour desk at the Pathwan Princess Hotel. Might help. Have a great trip and make your own mind.

I don't know anything about the claims of animal cruelty. All I can say is I'm not old enough to have two children and I think tiger temple is boring. You are aware that many people have been attacked there and im sure you would not want to put your children at risk.

Elephant rides are ok. Quite uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend more than a hour.

Erawan falls is by far the best attraction in Kanchanaburi. There are lots of monkeys around and all the fish nibble at your toes in the pools. One of the waterfalls has a rock formation you can slide down into the pool. The safari park is quite good too.

I would rent a car, if you don't want to, most of the guesthouses provide tours. I went through Pong phen guesthouse.

Monty1412, your children may learn a lot more by letting them read these posts. I am sure they will also have a new insight into the parent that they have - unless they are exactly like you.
