Sending Someone For Visa Extension

Featured Replies

Has anyone had someone else go for them to get a 30 day extension on a tourist visa? The form says that the applicant must appear in person but several years ago I was able to send someone to do the extension for me as long as I had all of the forms signed and filled out. Does anyone know if it is still possible to have someone else take the forms and do the extension?

Highly depends on the office. As you say, officially it has to be done in person.

Also, it could depend on your reason for not being able to appear in person. I know someone who often helps out people who are elderly or infirm -- not hospitalized, but housebound.

I once helped someone who was able to wait in the airconditioned taxi in the parking lot of the immigration office, but not able to navigate the steps, get up really early or deal with the crowds upon opening of the office. The immigration officer popped out to see her in the parking lot. I arrived early with her paperwork, got her number and called her to come in shortly before it appeared that her turn was coming.

Heck, my husband and get questioned about the other's reason for not coming in person when we do 90 day reports for the other. Maybe the immigration officer is just nosy!

Thanks for the information. I think I will just have to go myself because I don't have a good reason why I can't go other than I just didn't want to take the time to go all the way out to immigration. It seems like it's not as easy as it was a few years ago to send someone.
