Yingluck is relaxing at home. No higher security needed during this time

BANGKOK, 16 July 2011 (NNT)-Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra is spending the long weekend at her residence under the protection of the police while reporters are waiting outside hoping to get some good news coverage

Reporters have reportedly continued to travel to Ms. Yingluck’s home which is situated near Ramindhra expressway since this morning. According to the report, Ms. Yingluck has no plans to leave the house today.

Meanwhile, Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Major General Anan Srihirun has reviewed safety measures for political figures, including Ms.Yingluck, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva and members of the Election Commission, which have been implemented since the political campaign.

However, Major Geberal Anan said higher security measure has not been mentioned yet if Ms. Yingluck finally becomes Prime Minister.

Poll: Majority wants military officer to be new defense minister

BANGKOK, 16 July 2011 (NNT) – A recent Suan Dusit Poll has revealed that most Thai people are in support of a military official to become the next minister of defense and wish to see the protection of the monarchy be carried out at haste.

The survey was conducted by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University during 12-15 July to gather opinions from civil servants, military officials and the general public regarding the qualifications of the incoming defense minister. The majority of 70.96 percent viewed that the person assuming the post should come from the military as he would need to have sound understanding of the military’s operation and also have the respect of all soldiers.

Meanwhile, 27.63 percent of the respondents preferred someone with extensive knowledge, capability and achievements. Asked about their expectations, 23.82 percent said the new minister should have integrity, uphold the military’s honor and good image and safeguard the national sovereignty to his best ability.

Regarding urgent agenda for the minister, the majority pointed to the protection of the monarchy, the maintenance of national security and the differentiation between the roles of the military and politicians.
