Laptop Repair

Featured Replies

soo .. i brought my lovely Sager laptop with me to thailand , had constant overheating issue's and then before i knew it the laptop wouldnt boot.

i've only had my laptop for nearly 2 months so i've returned it to America for Repair ...

im just curious .. has anyone ever had problems having their laptops returned ? i was talking to a friend about it yesterday and he said i should of had it repaired here and that im going to have to pay tax on the laptop when they send it back.

is this true or do they not tax repairs ?

is it still under warranty?

if not, you will be better off bringing it to Panthip plaza for repair.

i've already sent it over to america because it was under warranty. i thought that would be the cheapest way but my friend said that when they send it back im probably going to get charged as if i was importing a new laptop.

That could well be unless the repair service does the customs papers correctly AND the customs officer interprets them correctly.

Out of curiosity, how much postage did you pay?

This can be a problem when items bought outside LOS need to be sent overseas for repair.

IME customs officers are reluctant to accept that is a repaired unit, not a new one.

Do you have the paperwork to show that it was sent out from Thailand?

That could be useful depending on the mood of the customs but it still sounds like a new machine.

If it's sent back by DHL / UPS there's reports on here about the courier services being highly likely to be stopped by customs and tax collected.

When I had a problem with my laptop I was lucky to be able to have someone hand carry it back to me from US.

Yes, customs charges could apply depending on how the return shipment is marked. Be prepared to prove you mailed the laptop back for repair and was just receiving it back, which would mean some more paper work, visit to the customs folks, etc. Best of luck.

I did send a Laptop back to the states for repair 4 years ago to HP. I asked that they marked it "repaired under warranty" Personal use on the custom tag with no value, which they did. Did not have problem getting it back except to pay additional postage charges for incorrect weight. Also sent EMS.

Would you have there contact details?

Sometimes the repair facility values it at the new cost for insurance purposes, (think DHL/UPS/Fedex etc) then customs use that deceleration to nail you.
