Top Democrat Hails PM-to-be's Leadership

A senior member of the Democrat Party hails the prime minister-to-be's request for the red-shirt group to stop pressuring the poll panel given the move shows she has enough leadership skills for the post.

Democrat Party Secretary General Suthep Thuagsuban advised Pheu Thai's top party-list MP Yigluck Shinawatra , also prime minister-to-be, not to allow any group to pressure or threaten others.

Suthep said he is still unsure about whether the red-shirt group will heed Yingluck's suggestion that supporters should cease pressuring the Election Commission, but said the move shows she is ready to take the prime ministerial post.

However, Suthep said Yingluck's action may help improve her public image while causing adverse consequences on her popularity with the red-shirt group.

Asked about plans by Pheu Thai members to join ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra's birthday party in Bali, Indonesia, Suthep said it was a personal matter and he did not want to criticize such a move.

He said it is too early to comment about the political direction the upcoming Pheu Thai-led coalition will take, given criticisms against its performance should be made after it takes office and is given an opportunity to implement its policies.
