Adaptor For Old Style Earth Plugs

Featured Replies

There are several old style earth plugs in the house, the ones with two round pins and two metal earth strips on the side. I read you can't buy sockets for them anymore, but you can get adaptors. Can't find any adaptors in the village or Uttaradit. Are they available in Pattaya or Bkk? If so, where, please?

Thanks for any help.

They are made by WonPro, usually on a tree with loads of other WonPro adaptors.

I've only ever seen them in HomePro although I don't think they are exclusive to HomePro.

They look like this:-

You can also still get the correct sockets for the Schuko plug, which would be a better solution if a single appliance is used exclusively in a particular outlet.

Actually I would recommend change to US or Thai style grounded plug (although have never found any Thai style for sale). Those adapters do not allow two plugs in the normal Thai outlet so too inviting for someone to remove; and you have lost your ground.

Have found the mother lode of adaptors in Home Pro. Shall be taking about 10 back, and taping to all the individual plugs.

Be aware the adapter shown in post 2 is OK if remains in socket but frequent use can result in the ground pin pulling out of the plastic housing and remaining in the socket at some point (been there). Highly recommend change of plug (if you know color code or can check with meter) as a new Eagle plug is about the same price. The only downside is the wire retaining clamp is expecting larger cord than is normal here (US design for120v service) so have found cutting a small 1 inch of small plastic water tubing works well to place over the wire at clamp area. Then you are sure adapter will not be removed and can attach two three pin plugs to a normal outlet.

Thanks lopburi. Taking your advice about needing to leave the adaptor in the socket, I have now bought the proper socket x 3 and will install them for the plugs to be used in rather than the adaptors.

Hey Crossy. That Shuko female. Is that Clipsal?

I was up at Home Pro & all they had was "Haier" (unsure of the spelling). That were only single, surface mounts. No flush mounts available.

They did have the Won Pro adapters too at 85 baht each. A little rich for my blood.

But great for a microwave or other appliance I am reluctant to chop the male plug off of.

So I decided to mount one of these for my microwave. As stated it's a surface mount & the only Shuko stocked by Home Pro Paradise Park.

Makes a nice install. This whole series has a lens for a light but it's a dummy. Think I paid 160 baht for it.

Looks like this one.

Master series
