Spiritual principle are. to my understanding, un-selfishness/self-centredness, love/compassion for others etc.

Yes, I have, but I dont see it is being something you have to believe in (which seems to be the suggestion here), it is possible to prove mind power without resorting to faith.

I agree with you Orchid.

What I mean is that someone must try to believe in something outside themselves - whether this be God, Allah, Sangha/Dharma, nature, the force etc.

Do you know the Thai phrase, "arai ja gerd gaw hai mun gerd"?(whatever happens is meant to happen)

This, in my understanding, means that certain things happen and no matter how hard we try to use our own self-will to prevent them from happening, we can't.

When I do this, it gives me some degree of serenity and humility.

I am not the centre of everything - it gets rid of self-centredness, sel-pity, self-delusion, selishness, and all the other "selfs".

The sentence is used by addict especialyy as their self-will runs riot often and the only way to recover is to believe/trust/accept/have faith in this higher power's will.

Sorry but I find it hard to explain exactly what I mean.
