Ssangyong Actiyon

Featured Replies

Popped into the Ssangyong showroom in my quest to find the SUV that suits me. Was impressed with the Actiyon. It had many of the things I was looking for.

2.0 litre Diesel engine

Part-time 4 Wheel drive shift on the fly

Compact size - length of only 4.455 m.

Decent ground clearance

Mercedes engine and Mercedes service centres will apparently receive and service them.

but the price of 1,680,000 is very hard to justify, for me anyway.

I wonder how many units they shift per year in Thailand. It can't be many. I couldn't find the stats.

My impression of these is that despite having a Mercedes Benz engine, the rest of the vehicle is on par with every other Korean built piece of shit on the road.

Did you try the PJS? It seems the most popular at the moment and easily outselling the fortuner. My brother in law has one and its very nice - you would save over 300K on the purchase price compared to the Ssangyong and could get more on the resale later on. Yes it's hard to justify 1.6M for it.

I am suffering from a Ssangyong Stavic a longer time now, there service in Phuket is incredibly bad, these guys got no clue. Maintenance is very expensive, the engine is a nightmare (old Mercedes 2.7 litre 5 cyl.), runs rough and it takes forever to get off from stand. I hardly can image there is something good coming from Ssangyong.

yes the Actyon looks good but for the price..

Not diesel but same sort of size, parked next to one yesterday Chery 'Tiggo' door was open so looked leather inside and looked to be Climate control Air Con, and 1/2 the price of the Actyon.

Later in the day followed the new KIA Sportage, had no idea it had arrived yet, no idea of price but looked good. [found nothing on search engine for Thailand ?]

Lots about the new shape Suzuki Grand Vitra @ 1.050,00 baht brand new, maybe a tiny bit bigger but the same price the new Nissan X-Trail.

Myself will wait as later next year the Mazda CX 5 will be here, and see what that is like..

Bigger but diesel is the old model Chevrolet Captiva [As per TV yesterday 'Motors Thailand' the brand new one out this week is 2.4 petrol only]

If my neighbor bought a Stavic I would have only two options - Make him get rid of it.......or move myself

Indeed and absolutely. You read my mind or my other posts. The Pajero Sport (PJS, right?) is the obvious choice to make. However, it's a 7-seater whilst the Actiyon is a 5-seater. I personally don't need a 7-seater but others have different requirements. Pajero still tops the list but any purchase won't be till October at the earliest so I have plenty of time to umm and arr.

Back to Ssangyong Actiyon which is the focus of the thread, I looked at prices in other countries and I think I can safely say a huge chunk of the Thai price (3 - 400,000) must be import duty or dealer mark-up or ridiculous overheads. I would buy it at, say, 1,150,000 or a little more but I absolutely cannot justify a retail price of 1,680,000.

Ssangyong have long mastered the art of making a pigs ear look like a pigs anus. How could anyone seriously consider buying one!

Mate they've got to be the ugliest cars on the road. And the Actyons nose takes the cake. And those headlights, what were those designers smoking when they designed those butt ugly things. Whole thing looks like a blow up toy.

However I was surprised to notice the Korando it's almost passable. Looks bit like a Captiva.

To the poster who says all Korean cars are crap. Ten years ago I would have agreed. But now Koreans are making some excellent cars. Both Hyundai and Kia. Their designs have a more European look than most Japanese cars and their reliability has greatly improved. So I suggest you may have to eat humble pie in the very near future. But as always, each to their own.

For the same price as the Ssangyong Actiyon

Subaru Forester.

and the Subaru Impreza 5 door 2.0 lt. is 1.4 million

Isn't Ssangyong the only one of the four Korean makes that went bust?

With designs like theirs, not hard to understand why ;)
