How Is โคตร Used?

Featured Replies

Hello All,

My Thai friend told me that โคตร is a bad word, but I looked the meaning up and I got " lineage, descent; stock; family; ancestry; line; pedigree; clan." Can some please explain the usage of this word?

Thank you

Hi Sourcherry,

I have a feeling that your friend were talking about the other meaning of khoot. This video might help you--I learned a lot from it:

It's shown in this video coming before the adjective, e.g. โคตรแพง, but I've also heard it come after, e.g. แพงโคตร.

Not a word to be using in small talk at immigration, that's for sure!

Very impressive English skills in that video.

In my experience when it's placed after the adjective it's mostly used in double form, as in แพงโคตร ๆ

My kind of teacher.....he doesn't beat around the bush. Very easy to understand. And there's nothing like an in-your-face video to hammer your point home. Well done!

Thanx for posting the you-tube link. :)

Well made language presentations by that guy.

He has a number of videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/alifshinobi.....but this seems to be the best of the best....no background music, straightforward, easy to understand. Wish there were more like him giving away free lessons.
