Iranians and Africans arrested for drug-running

By The Nation

Four foreign drug suspects were arrested by police with narcotic substances worth Bt10 million in separate cases in Bangkok, deputy chief of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Pol Maj General Jiraroj Keesiri, told a press conference yesterday.

He said Iranian man Reza Mirzaei, 24, was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi Airport with 900 grams of crystal meth in his luggage, while another Iranian, Ghodrat Jabbari, 46, had 909 gmof crystal meth in his gear.

Togo woman Solim Holou, 29, was found to have 1,350 grams of crystal meth hidden in two ice buckets.

The fourth suspect, a Nigerian named Michael "Kalou" Omoji or Anya Nwankwo, 47, was arrested in a rented room in Ramkhamhaeng Soi 8 with 170 grams of heroin in a computer circuit, Jiraroj said.

Following a tip-off that Iranian drug smugglers would bring drugs through the airport, police searched and apprehended Mirzaei and Jabbari on their arrival from Serbia yesterday, while police apprehended Holou as she arrived from Ethiopia.

The three were charged with smuggling drugs into Thailand and possessing drugs with intent to sell. Police inquiries revealed Omoji was dealing drugs. They arrested him at his apartment and charged him with having heroin for sale and overstaying his visa.

Omoji reportedly confessed to having lived in Thailand since 2008, concealing drugs and sending them via post to various countries on three occasions. He was about to send the computer circuit with heroin to Australia when police arrested him.

It gives a new meaning to get a life...... sentence and contemplate just how good it once was to dream of everything when you had nothing. Now of course a patch of earth never looked so good.

I have no sympathy for drug users or drug suppliers. If the law sentences them to death, even the corrupt Thai law, then so be it.

Only ignorant morons would think you can carry those substances through international airports and get away with it. Then again may be they don't show 'Banged Up Abroad' in Africa or the Arab countries. Long may that continue.

Wasted lives.

The irony is that the seized drugs will be sold on by the corrupt police. Hence their efficiency at detecting shipments but their total apathy in solving the murders of foreign nationals.

What is it now - 11 years and waiting for a DNA test in the murder of the British female academic student?

Who tipped them off ? I dont suppose an Iranian with 30 kgs of ice or smack came through on the same flight and is now relaxing in a spa in his 5 star hotel suite in Sukhumvit road. They only catch mules with 100gm to a few kilos.

Four foreigners arrested for drug smuggling

BANGKOK, July 25 - Narcotics Suppression Bereau police on Monday arrested four foreigners smuggling drugs worth over Bt9 million.

Two Iranian men, Reza Mirzaei, 24, and Ghodrat Jabbari, 46, were apprehended at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi international airport with 1,800 grammes of crystal meth or ‘ice’, worth an estimated Bt5.4 million in value, hidden in spray bottles in their suitcases.

The two men flew to Thailand from Damascus, the capital of Syria.

According to an initial investigation, both claimed they did not know each other. However, police said they worked for the same drug smuggling syndicate based in Phuket and Pattaya.

Another accused smuggler arrested at the airport was Solim Holou, a 29-year-old woman from Togo.

She had had in her possession 1,350 grammes of crystal meth worth over Bt4 million, hidden in an ice bucket.

The African woman confessed that the drug was intended to be delivered to customers in Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Nigerian Kalu Nwankwo, 41, also known as Michael Omoji and Anya Nwankwo, was apprehended at his home in Bangkok's Ramkhamhaeng Soi 8 with two bags of heroin weighing 170 grammes hidden in a computer circuit board.

The suspect confessed it was to be packaged and sent to Australia. (MCOT online news)

It didn't happen.

That is in general a myth. 'Tip-off' is a catch-all phrase used to cover anything and give no indication as to how the suspicion was raised for this person -- sometimes also to give cover as to why some people are singled out using profiling.

Don't read too much into it unless you have specific info that it was an anonymous phone-call that give up a specific individual. Almost never happens.
