8 kids rescued from trafficking suspects

By The Nation

Published on July 26, 2011

Police raided a rented room in Chiang Mai's Muang district Tuesday morning and rescued eight children aged 3-14 from three Burmese human trafficking suspects, who reportedly forced the kids to beg on the street and assaulted those failing to meet a daily target of Bt500.

I hope these loverly kids get a better chance...but I doubt it.

This is the first time I have read of this happening......cannot say it is not before time and hope to read about a lot more of it happening.

Good. Finally. Gotta be loads more around than eight though.

Its never been that hard to find Burmese kids at the Loi Kroh boxing bars and they are still pulling shifts tonight. I know any decent person wants to help these kids but handing out money (or soliciting from drunks whatever way you want to put it) just perpetuates this tragedy. Is there are particular reason why the many farang business owners cannot stop this one source at least by perhaps making patrons aware (posting the linked article in toilets etc) or at approaching the centre management. There have also been more than a few times when a drunk patron has been capitalised on as well. Saves two parties in the end.

I give up on the flower and frog ladies........

Hope that they hit the guys running the selling-at-the-traffic-lights kids, we buy only from the adults there, and I would encourage others to do the same ... vote with your wallets !

Incidentally thsi was covered in the Thai news as well with a few pictures.

Correct my Thai...นอกจากนี้ยังแอบล่วงละเมิดทางเพศเด็กในเวลากลางคืนอย่างต่อเนื่อง - Is this not also saying that they were continually trying to rape the children at night also?

They need to go after the demand side of the equation, the people who give these kids money and keep the sick business going. Can't these people buy books and flowers from adults in their own country? Sick. Hopefully they will be putting a few money-rich tourists in jail next time.

Pretty much says abused at night. So I guess saying sexually abused rather than the term rape.

Well balanced and thought out post......special olympics is coming up...you should not neglect your training regime with such in depth thoughts.

You sound like someone who has a lot of experience with "depth thoughts."

By the way....if a tourist that is not 'money rich' gives a few baht to these kids....should they also be locked up ?
