News_Editor Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Trial of Egypt's ousted President Mubarak to be held in Cairo 2011-07-29 00:58:35 GMT+7 (ICT) CAIRO (BNO NEWS) -- The trial of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for allegedly ordering the killing of anti-government protesters will be held in Cairo on August 3, a key judicial official said on Thursday. The Egyptian Gazette reported that the trial of Mubarak, who is also accused of abuse of power and illicit profiteering counts, will also include his two sons Gamal and Alaa, fugitive businessman Hussein Salem, former Interior Minister Habib el-Adli and six of his senior aides. They all face charges for the deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters during the 18-day uprising, which toppled Egypt's 30-year ruler. Deputy Minister of Justice for Court Affairs Mohamed Manie said the trial will be held in Cairo's Expo City. He said that unprecedented security measures are being taken to secure the trial, which a State-owned TV channel will broadcast, while other channels will have the right to transmit the proceedings too. Protesters have been demanding the prosecution of those responsible for the killings of peaceful protesters. According to Amnesty International, at least 840 people were killed and over 6,000 people were injured in the violent repression that took place during the January uprising. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday that Mubarak, who has been detained in a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh since April, is in good shape. Mubarak reportedly suffered a heart attack after being questioned about the charges against him, but there have been conflicting reports about his health. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-07-29
