I'm no techie so dont eat me alive.

Was reading another thread (unrelated) but up came a post which in part was stating about downloading direct from Iplayer to WMP.

Clearly that can be done ?? How do I actually do it ?

I have only an Edge connection (where I am currently) but have TOT at about 0.4/5 Mgbs elsewhere so I realise it would be slow, but no matter.The Edge is on unlimited package so time is not an issue.

So for example if I wanted to view an episode from BBC's Top Gear how do I do it ?? Talk me through steps ??

Very simple.

Turn on your VPN

Go here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv

Find the programme you want to view.

Click on the little "download options" icon just below the programme name.

Select Windows Media Player.

Wait for the download to finish.

Watch within a week.

You need to activate your VPN briefly when starting playback.

AS you appear to have ExPatShield...

Google how to get ‘BBC iPlayer Desktop’ and install it.

Then go to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer and click on TV

Look under Most Popular and click on Top Gear. Then click on download for iplayer desktop.

Then look in your iPlayer Desktop and you should see the program under ‘Coming Soon’.

To watch it, when it’s in ‘Available Now’..either have ExPatShield running OR disconnect from the internet.

BUT TO DIRECTLY DOWNLOAD download into WMP...click the Download Options Button and then the WMP button.

Let me know if it works as I haven't tried it...but that seems to be the way looking at the website.

Ok got the direct download icon straight into WMP.

Iniatially tried to get yesterdays episode but no download option (or I couldn't see it) so went to last weeks episode and icon there.

Started to download and clearly working as box showing top left of screen (remember I'm no techie !) but time remaining was showing 4 hours something as on Edge connection so let it run till 3% had downloaded.

Then cancelled the download expecting to at least find the 3% in the library but not there.

As I cancelled the download in entirety would that be the reason ??

Clearly my initial set up is correct ??

Have just found what I downloaded in Real Player about 20 seconds worth ??

Has it defaulted to that rather than WMP ??

Do not use the iPlayer desktop client.

Start the WMV download with your VPN turned on. Pause the download. Turn off the VPN. Continue the download which will now be at full speed and not throttled by your VPN.

To view: turn on the VPN before starting WMP. Once playback has started you can turn off the VPN.
