PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least six militants were killed during a Pakistani security operation in the northwestern region of the country, officials said Thursday.

Gunship helicopters carried out attacks against suspected militant hideouts in various areas in Pakistan's Central Kurram Agency, the Express Tribune reported.

At least four hideouts were destroyed, as well as one of their vehicles. In addition to the six killed militants, 12 others were injured during the operation. Also, security teams were able to secure a large weapons cache during search operations.

Last week, at least 27 militants and four tribesmen were killed during gun battles in the Masuzai area of Kurram Agency. The fighting began between the Taliban and tribal lashkar, but paramilitary troops and artillery units of the army backed the tribesmen.
