Speculation on new Cabinet line-up

By THE NATION

Horse-trading for a post in the new Cabinet was far from over yesterday as PM-elect Yingluck Shinawatra was only able to confirm that Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala, former secretary-general of the Securities Exchange Commission, was one of the candidates. However, even she could not confirm if he would take the finance minister's post.

"All I can say is that he is in the running, but we are checking the qualifications of many other people," she said. "The name has been floated in the media, but is not part of the Cabinet line-up yet."

Asked if outspoken veteran politician Chalerm Yoobamrung would be given a portfolio, Yingluck only said that he was a capable person.

A Pheu Thai Party source said there were many candidates in the list right now, and many would be removed. As of now, the post of deputy prime minister for security affairs could either go to Pracha Promnok or Kowit Wattana. Pheu Thai party chief Yongyuth Wichaidit is likely to get the interior portfolio, while his deputies could be Preecha Lengsom-boonsuk and Chuchart Hansawasdi. Sumeth Phomanee could get Transport, with Prapat Chongsanguan as his deputy.

Banthoon Supakvanich could become deputy finance minister, while Kittirat Na Ranong and Phadermchai Sasomsab are believed to be in the running for Commerce. The post of deputy commerce minister is expected to go to Siriwat Kachornprasart from Chart Thai Pattana.

Theera Wongsamut from Chart Thai Pattana is expected to get Agriculture, while Wannarat Charnukul from Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party could get Industry. Pichai Chunhavajira appears to be the top candidate for Energy, Chat Kuldilok for Justice and Sukuma Khunpluem from Palang Chon Party for the Science Ministry portfolio.

The Foreign Ministry portfolio could either go to Jullapong Nonsrichai or Vikrom Khumpairoj.

Chayanin Thepakham could get Natural Resources and Environment, Anudit Nakornthap could get Social Development and Human Security minister, while the Culture portfolio is likely to go to either Thanit Thienthong, Kittisak Hattasongklor or Boonreun Srithares. Jarupong Ruangsuwan is considered top candidate for Labour.

Meanwhile, Chumpol Silapa-archa is expected to retain his post as tourism and sports minister, while Chalerm could get Public Health.

Apiwan Wiriyachai is believed to be a candidate for Education, while Information and Communications Technology could go to either Boonsong Teriyapirom or Pichai Naripthaphan.

The lady has a chance to show she is truly looking for qualified candidates by posting their qualification, background, etc, via the rags they refer to as newspapers in this country.I am sure this is a consideration for those who are applicants for the various positions, when they present their resume/credentials?????

She said the cabinet wont include any yucky people. Be interesting to see if Chalerm makes it in as most Thai people across the political spectrum including PTP voters and the poor would have him in the category.

I suppose we can now stop complaining about the EC not investigating the qualifications of the 4000 or so candidates in the 45 days before the election if the PTP don't even know the qualifications of their elected MPs.
