BANGKOK, 8 August 2011 (NNT) – Bangkok is the country’s champion in terms of information technology, having the highest number of IT and communication devices while the northeast has the lowest number, according to a recent survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

Based on the survey conducted in 2010, there were 61.9 million Thais aged more than 6. Out of that number, 19.1 million or 30.9% used computers. 13.8 million, or 22.4% used the internet while 38.2 million, or 61.8% used mobile phones.

In terms of administrative zones, 43.4%, 35.1% and 72.2% of people living in municipality areas used computers, the internet and mobile phones respectively. The figures for people living outside municipality areas were lower at 25.2%, 16.5% and 57.0% respectively.

In terms of topography, Bangkok had the highest figure of computers at 47.4%, followed by the central region at 31.7%, the south at 29.3%, the north at 28.9% and the northeast at 27.2%.

As for the internet usage, Bangkok also had the highest rate of 39.6%, followed by the central region at 22.3%, the north at 21.2%, the south at 19.9% and the northeast at 18.9% .

Similarly, Bangkok had the highest number of mobile phones at 77.3%, followed by the central region at 66.9%, the north at 60.5%, the south at 58.8% and the northeast at 55.4%.
