Queens Birthday 12Th August - Alcohol Sales ?

Recommended Posts

I know people get bored with this question cropping up on every public holiday.

However, there are conflicting posts about whether alcohol sales are allowed this Friday.

For example, on the Phuket forum Katabeachbum states that there will be NO alcohol sales.

On the Pattaya Expats website it states that the Queens birthday is NOT a 'no alcohol day'.

I would just like somebody in the know to give definitive clarication.

(and NO - this is not to satisfy my own drinking habits, it is clarify whether sales can be made).

So you already read conflicting answers on 2 forums, what you expect to get this time?

Simple .An answer. !!! generally speaking ,this day is not so strongly supported by the B.I.B. It is up to them as to how strictly the "no alcohol" component is observed. Individual forces MAY have a different view. Changing hands may also play a part. What do you call that game?In the past His birthday was VERY strongly anti alcohol. Not so sure ,today.

My contribution?I say you can sell alcohol, later on another poster will say you can't.You are long enough in Thailand to know that opening this kind of topic is a waste of time,as you already admit that knowledge in the OP,since it is up to the discretion of the BIB in any particular area to allow alcohol sales or not and you may call yourself lucky if they even inform you about their stance a few hours prior to the event.

For Bangkok check out Dave the Rave

Yeah a burned out Go go manager is quite an authority.

OP, according to folks at Hanrahans, the Huntsman Pub, and the Dubliner, nothing is for certain until closer to the date but they do not expect to be restricted on alcohol sales on 12 August. It can vary a bit by police districts, e.g., Thong Lo can be different than Lumphini but the Queen's birthday is not historically an alcohol free day in Bangkok and it not likely to be this year either.

I know, i know, I know, I know. But just for once wouldn't it be nice to have some 'official word' that it is OK (or even not OK) to sell alcohol.

I have people planning to visit on Friday and I know they will be less than happy if they can't buy alcohol. It also makes me look a bit of a tw4t because I can't speak with any certainty.

OK - I am going to be definite - I am selling booze on Friady..

.... (unless anyone from the BIB tells me differently before then!).

No, not a bar, somewhere that people like to enjoy a drink with their meal. :)

Trust me, they have plenty of available cash and will only be too happy to spend it if allowed to do so.They just like to enjoy a drink with their broodje gezond.

  • Kamala District 076385310...NO!
  • Thalang District 076311123...Not Sure??
