Current 3G Availability In Pattaya Area

Featured Replies

I have just got a Samsung S2 and want an internet package, pre paid. I have a DTAC SIM but it is now a few years old, will I need to change it ?

Also, if DTAC has no 3G, then what can I use to keep up to date with email on the go ? Do I have to move to another provider ? If so, which one.

I saw a few old posts but nothing more recent than June and the situation could have changed since then.

Sorry, you will have to change providers to get 3G service. DTAC has pretty much been locked out the 3G market for now. True is the provider that has the best 3G coverage in Pattaya, but it does not cover the Darkside. I'm not sure about the coverage in Jomtien. Interestingly True has pulled their 3G coverage map for Pattaya. Maybe too many complaints.

If you are only concerned about email on the go, then 2G will suffice. Just subscribe with a data plan with DTAC.

Yes, it's called MNP. However you will have to do it in Sri Racha (the closest True location to Pattaya). First you will have to go DTAC with your passport and register your current number. Make sure the Passport number name spelling is exactly the same as your Passport or there may be delays. Wait a week and then go to True. They will issue a True SIM and you'll have to wait for it to be activated (up to 3 days). You will lose all your DTAC credit when the change occurs.

Already registered years ago. Could I just go straight to True ?

Potential issue with new passport number ?

Best to verify with DTAC. I registered my number years ago and when I went to True, there was a problem. It didn't show on the computer. Yes, the passport number must match!

I'm at the top of Soi Khatalow.. would really love to know if True is able to do 3G to here, pretty sure it does not.

Also I saw an interesting flyer at UBC office the other day, 50Mbit down, 3Mbit up for 5600 Baht a month. I was ready to purchase

it on the spot, but the girl informed me it was full. I'd love to hear if someone has this product, and how the delay in Satellite

effects it. I've heard they have made some progress with Satellite Internet lately.

What is a "3g extended/booster" and where do I get it?

Well I live just across the railway track on Soi Siam Country Club and my True 3G is useless here

I walked into True shop on Pattaya Nua (north pattaya rd) 2 months ago with my passport and no work permit and just a tourist visa in my passport. They gave me a "post paid" number with Internet at something like 599 baht unlimited per month with no questions asked. That package includes something like 400+ free texts, 200+ free local calls (within Thailand.) The next day I called them and asked them to open International calling for me and it was done within 30 minutes HOWEVER, Like I said before the 3G service is useless unless you are in Downtown Pattaya and the "Edge" network is about 1/2 the speed of dial-up.

I have had nothing but problems since day 1. People can only call my number maybe 70% of the time and I have had the True "Tech" on my other mobile maybe 7 times so far and all he can say is "I will check our server" but has never solved my problem.

I use a new iPhone 4 3G and when I turn the 3G on then I can hardly ever call out and NOONE can call me.

I will go back with AIS tomorrow where I paid the same for unlimited Edge internet and it was ok and my phone wasn't screwed up also. That Edge network worked all over Thailand for me and was good enough.

True can bend over and kiss my $%&* for all I care. There service is the worse in the world and the shop staff are VERY rude and useless.
