Help!

I've been teaching in Thailand for 4.5 years...

I've just been offered another teaching job that suits my present personal situation.

My present work permit is good until 31 - May - 2012.

.

Can I go 10 calendar days with out a contract / & still not have to go through the expence & nonsense of leaving the country, getting a V visa... yada yada

.

I am presently contracted to teach until 31 - May - 2012

.

My new school wants me to start on 10 - October - 2011

I have asked them if they could make it for 1-Oct-2011, but because of holidays & end-of-semester exam scheduling they are extremely reluctant.

.

It suits my present schools schedule perfectly for me to end on 30-Sept-2011

End of semester exams are over in middle of month & the added 2 weeks are for grading & submitting final marks.

Ideally, I would like to give my 30 days notice to my present school, showing my last day to be 30-Sept-2011

I think they would be quite happy with that (I think they'd be even happier if I gave them 45 days notice, for 30-Sept :)

And... I don't think my present school would be happy at all with me giving a leaving date of 10 of October.

That would be a Monday & it would be a week into a new semester.

With logic dictating, I'm no good to them for those 1st 10 days, considering I'm suddenly not there.

Their budget only allows X # of teachers & I'm sure they'd appreciate having that 1st 10 days of the month to work with my new replacement. :)

Any & all thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. :)

Depends on the kind of extension you are on. If you are on an extension of stay based on teaching, you have to leave the coutnry the same day your employment ends, but can get an additional 7 day to leave the country for 1,900 baht from immigration. (You will have to cancel your work permit too).

If you are on an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai you can stay and only have to cancel your work permit. If you have a Thai wife or child you can get a 60 day extension of stay instead of 7 days to leave the country.
