Hae แฮะ

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what HAE แฮะ means or adds to a sentence? Here are a couple of examples I came across:

ไม่รู้แฮะ

งงแฮะ

Thanks in advance for any info.

แฮะ = ครับ

I have usually heard it from teenage boys but I believe girls may use it too.

For example - กินข้าวยังแฮะ

Most commonly I hear ฮะ - this is to sound "cool", but I don't know why.

Also heard is อ่ะ.

I never use this word as I would sound silly as I am over 30. It is mostly used by boys aged about 12 - 25. :o

'งับ' is also another option - eg กำลังจะไปไหนงับ, again usually boys.

แฮะ used in everyday speech, means " onomatopoeia from the sound indicating emphasis."

ไม่รู้แฮะ - I don't know really.

แปลกแฮะ - so strange.

ไม่ยักรู้แฮะ - I never knew this before.

Thanks Neeranam and Yoot.

Yoot, so it's used for emphasis? That seems to fit in with examples I've seen like eg ชอบแฮะ etc.

Is it like a slang teenage word, or used by any age group? Just want to be sure I use it appropriately if I were to use it!

:o:D:D

can use Hub also...ฮับ

It means something along the lines of "gee".. as in:

ไม่รู้แฮะ - Gee, I dunno...

แปลกแฮะ - Gee, that's strange..

ไม่ยักรู้แฮะ - Gee, I never knew that before!

It's slang, and can be used by anybody in an rather informal situation.

Can be used to express surprise or sometimes sarcasm. (Ex #3 can be said in a sarcastic manner.)

This word doesn't count as slang because it appears in every Thai dictionaries. It's a word which only used in speech or when you ponder something and talk to yourself. e.g. แปลกแฮะ ก็วางไว้ตรงนี้แท้ ๆ มันหายไปไหนได้ยังไงนะ

Oops, pardon me. It's not slang :D What I meant was it's used mostly in informal speech

Thanks for the correction khun yoot :o

Sounds to me like a borrowed particle from Canada, eh?

Several good comments above.

I’d like to add that it is used among friends or to someone lower in status, when you don’t feel the listener deserves an official ‘ครับ - krub’ or ‘ค่ะ - khah’. Yet it is not impolite.

Sometimes it is used with the tone of exclaimation.

You wouldn’t use it with someone you are supposed to show respect to, as it would be impolite.

แฮะ , from what I understand, is used to express some sort of mild surprise.

แปลกแฮะ (surprised, obviously)

ไม่รู้แฮะ (it's probably something the speaker should know)

ชอบแฮะ (the speaker had not expected s/he would like the thing)

At least that's how I'd use it.

This is not to be confused with ฮะ ฮับ and งับ, which are the slangy forms of ครับ, mostly used by young people (or people trying to sound cute :o)

Are you sure แฮะ is not the same as the above?
