Terrorism Charges Against Red Shirts Were 'Inflated', Police, Public Prosecutors Claim

Is anyone surprised to find that public officials have no independence or integrity? The only question here is whether they were lying under the former government, or whether they are lying under this one.

As this is Thailand the answer would be they were lying then and they are lying now... everything is a very hazy shade of grey in Thailand

I'm confused. Reading TVF I thought the Dems were squeaky clean in everything they do. My bad.

Who said that? Please share.

Interpretation not literal of course.

Therein lies the fault.

If TVF posters didn't rely on interpretation in the News section there'd be an average of 1 new post per day. :D

At last, the truth is starting to emerge, many of us already knew this but the blinkered few on here still believed otherwise, and no doubt will go on believing otherwise.

Yes many of us knew all along what was going on - I am still surprised that the truth might come out after all TIT.

Kudos to the police and public prosecutors to bring this to light.

Now if Thailand should ever really want to change – THE TIME IS NOW.

Pass retroactive laws - like the coup makers did - declare the pardon they gave themselves void - and arrest all those who were involved in the illegal coup.

Replace them with capable officers and not according to the “class” they attended together. Investigate the theft of billions in taxpayer’s money to pay off those who helped them to stage the coup. Investigate the private wealth of those involved in the coup.

Those who ordered / carried out the killings of unarmed civilians with war weapons should be charged and prosecuted.

And oh yes – the police chief and army chief should come up with something better than – “I am a soldier / policeman – I just followed orders “ - that’s the number one excuse most Nazi officers had in their defence for torturing and murdering millions of people!

Thailand should make a clean cut now – for far too long those in power got away with their crimes and now feel they are untouchable and above the law!

Looks like another one of these thugs in uniform not only just got away with torture and murder - but the torture victim has been jailed.

Lets hope there's not a coup soon or the TRC will do another political U turn to save tits own backsides. Truth and Reconciliation has nothing to do with this. It's just having the view of those in power forced on you as the truth.

Wait for it.TRC announces..Army ordered to shoot own soldiers and bomb sky train stations, Army ordered to burn down Center One, Central World and Bangkok Bank on Rama 4 by an invisible hand.

Shift the blame, avoid the truth, close the book and get the noses back in the trough. That is and always has been the remit of the TRC under the Abhisit and now the Yingluck Governments.

Yingluck cannot afford having members of PTP being implicated in the arson and looting of Bangkok no matter how minor (remember the boss wants a clean government) so the notion that PTP will allow the TRC to find the reds responsible is laughable, just as laughable as if the Dems would allow the TRC to find the army at fault.

Today we see the softening up of the public, incremental releases of information that gently 're-educates' the populace until a complete 180o turn has been achieved. At which point the TRC no longer becomes relevant.

The voice of reason at long last.

Yes, Dems, progressives and liberals are squeaky clean... in their own minds.

To those people, what' is good for them, the elite and the "powers that were", is what has to be good for the country.

One can see that even here, a forum of foreigners, the "usual suspects" resort to insults, intimidation, epithets and condescending comments to silence those who do not share their views.

It comes to no surprise that in a climate of openness (after a truly democratically administration was elected) these details about inflated charges of terrorism will continue surfacing.

Expected from an administration made possible by the military.

Nevertheless, rabid fanatical people will say that it is OK to punish the Reds because they are so bad and uneducated.

These are the same individuals that resent Yingluck because she was elected by the uneducated Thais.

They will label anyone a Red and/or a Thaksin supporter when one dislikes with the perfection of their idol and leader of their hearts: Abhisit.

Thailand is the lovely country of Thais, not ours.

Just because a person was born in a developed country (and retired in Thailand) does not mean that person is superior to Thais: different yes, not superior.

.

"............. the "usual suspects" resort to insults, intimidation, epithets and condescending comments to silence those who do not share their views."

Accusing others of an act which you continually perform yourself is called hypocrisy; those that do so are called hypocrites.

Any doubts that the TRC know which way the wind is blowing, can read the writing on the wall, and know which side their bread is buttered, need only to read this paragraph:

"TRC chairman Kanit na Nakorn meanwhile said a proposal to remove the chief of the Department of Special Investigation, Tharit Pengdit, was a political decision for the new government and would not affect the reconciliation process, since the DSI was only involved in investigating."

Re-worded, it says "Tharit and DSI did nothing wrong, but we know he's going to get the chop, and it won't effect us because we're alright Jack."

Nice to know that you can depend on your colleagues when things get rough. I suppose that threatening to charge Yingluk with perjury might not be the most politically correct thing to do, even if there is ample evidence that said crime was committed. IMHO more police lose their job for doing it than for not.

Did you read the article?

Some charges probably were inflated as were some other aspects of the claims made by witnesses. Other charges were not inflated. Some things, such as the claims of deaths caused by security forces may have also been inflated (see the last couple of sentences.)

The questions that need to be asked are many, including "Are some of these new revelations coming about because of pressure from different outside sources than those which may have been bringing pressure to bear before?"

I distinctly remember "Random" as having no problem with the death of an innocent recently in a drug operation .............

""Police investigators and public prosecutors claim they were pressured by policy-makers to file terrorism charges against red-shirt demonstrators last year despite a lack of solid evidence, the Truth for Reconciliation Commission (TRC) said yesterday.""

Maybe Abhisit and Sutthep were so naive that they thought they would remain in power forever so no one would ever find out ? There is probably a lot more interesting stuff hidden under the carpets...

Oh Yes those dem dummies honestly believed that their crimes would not get exposed. I still believe some Dems think Prayuth is going to ride in on a white horse and return the nation to normality. Its not going to happen, Thaksin has neutered the C in C fervour for more confrontation, maybe by exposing his role in last years crackdown. You can guarantee the carpet has a huge bump where all the dem crap is hiding. Honest Abhisit my tut

When or if Democrats return to power someday, you will read the following: ""Police investigators and public prosecutors claim they were pressured by policy-makers to stop filing terrorism charges against red-shirt demonstrators despite plentiful of solid evidence, the Truth for Reconciliation Commission (TRC) said yesterday."" And maybe you are so naive to hope to know all the truth about everything.

Right on, he (she) who pays the piper calls the tune

The Dems wont be returning to power in at least the next eight years and hopefully never. They had a year to report on events but never did, thought they would be here for ever.

That is a bit unfair as they did set up a Truth for Reconciliation Commission though, according to some posters here, the people they appointed were push overs who are easily swayed by whoever is in power and do whatever they are told.

Either that or some people just refuse to accept the truth that they are arriving at???

It was these same policemen, who turned a blind eye to the Red Shirts in the first place and allowed them to set up their fortress in Bangkok... Thaksin was a policeman and many of his comrades owe him Big Time... What about all the law abiding citizens who lost their jobs/businesses due to those unlawful Red Shirts and their unlawful protest..! At least Yinluck had the sense to Snub them from any cabinet posts.. seems she could not find one who knew a word longer than 3 letters long..!

neither myself OR the report say the reds did nothing wrong, it simply states that the terrorism charges are exaggerated, a sentiment that i and many others agree with. Riot? maybe. Civil disobedience? yes. Public disorder? yes. terrorism? no.

Has anyone ever given any thought to why the many countries that Thaksin visited refused the Thai government requests to extradite him?

Interpol was and is of the opinion that it was politically motivated. HMMMMMMM!

If all Thai politicians were investigated the way Thaksin was investigated, there wouldn't be enough politicians from all the parties to form a government.

Errmmm???? Because they didn't think he deserved to be extradited on jumped up charges to face a bias court proceeding?

I seem to remember "jdinasia" having no problem with the deaths of over 90 innocent people at the hands of the military and the military appointed government, as abhisit said himself a deal was done to put them in power, his tongue slipped a little too far haha.

Now back on topic, do you think the charges were exaggerated? are you naive enough to believe these people were not pressured to file these unwarranted charges?

The truth is slowly and surely starting to come out, don't make yourself look silly by continuing with your propaganda

Actually you are simply building a strawman there .....

There were not "over 90 innocent people" killed by the military. Your assertion of another fallacy aside. There were just over 90 people killed, some by the military, but possibly now the number of those 'probably' killed by the military is fewer than before, according to the article. Additionally some were killed by the reds, and some were killed by the redshirt's "ronin" contingent.

I think absolutely all charges should be reviewed and if some people were gathered up just as patsies they should be cut loose, but strangely the reds have left so many in jail to rot instead of helping them. Some of the charges may be unwarranted, and if so the police should be held to account over it. Yes I bet there was pressure to round up people and charge them. There always is pressure in all countries to round up people to solve crimes.

That you accept what you appear to assert is state sanctioned murder in some cases but not in others is disturbing. Fine to kill innocents when chasing drug dealers, but not fine for people to be killed when participating in an illegal violent insurrection? Hypocrisy I say!

If the police and prosecuters have wrongfully laid charges against red shirts as they claim, then they should be charged themselves. Not to mention lose their jobs.

Ahh yes its so nice to read that total hypocrisy is very much alive and well in this forum, for instance out out of the approximately 2,500 people who lost their lives in Thaksins war on drugs in 03 ,how many were shot and survived to tell the tale , and how many policemen were killed or wounded in the so called "shoot outs" ,in closeing was any one ever charged for the murder of 2,500 people ,the answer is quite simple ,NOT ONE.

it is amazing how police can change their stories. so the building blew themslves up did they. RPG's were mis represented water guns and the shooting ing gas tanks was an accident while the red shirts walked around the men in black and casually nodded as they walked passed.

Why would the men in black just randomly start firing RPG's and M79 granage lauchers at the same the the Reds just happened to be protesting.

lucky conincidence was ?

Then the police come up with a stupid statement saying that the PM pressured the police. what do to. to write the truth ?

TIT

ANyway what is good for the goose is good for the gander. I disagree with the way Abbist got into power. Thai ruk thai won elections what was it 3 times. then a vote became worthless. All the yellows had to do was close an airport down. That is trepassing and illegal.

So i knew that hd the army and govement backed down. then this would inspire a copy cat sydrome. where if u want power out here u have to take it by force.

I guess this will take along time to end.

Give Chewitt a chance at least he is honest and completly neutral. there agian who care what i say.

Thai is like a computer at the moment. it needs a re-start.

I want neithr Reds or yellow. they don't deserve the right to a democracy and Taksin or the Taksin's could earn their money back by making a reality tv show called the Taksins.

Job done !
