Accessing My Vps From Internet Cafe'S

Featured Replies

On a couple of occassions, from internet cafe's, I have been unable to access my VPS due to not having Windows Remote Desktop Connection program on their machines. (Or at least me not being able to locate the program on their machines).

What other programs, similar to the RDC program, might I be able to use?

Furthermore - I was reading on another thread about the "Go Anywhere Bootable Linux Thumb Drive", and something called "VirtualBox".

With this in mind, and presuming most cafe machines will not (should not) permit rights to load programs, could I have a Remote Desktop program (or similar) on a USB "VirtualBox", which would enable me access my VPS?

http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ Works great, suggest using either ubuntu or mint with it, they are both very user friendly. Also has virtual box built in so no need to download anything

Thanks for this link. I dont know much (anything) about Linux.

Will this method permit me to run a remote access program via Linux,

to my VPS,

and will it work on internet cafe provided Windows machines ?

Yes it will do exactly that.

Great......but pardon my Linux ignorance....... what would be the exact procedure to get to where I want

I can use any USB thumbdrive?

Do i go straight to www.linuxliveusb.com ?

or should I be installing Ubuntu first?

Greatly appreciate your assistance

Any thumb drive will do, I think it needs to be 1gb or more.

Just go straight to linuxlive install the software,

Run it, choose your usb from the drop down step 2 choose source (either point it towards an iso you have already downloaded or have it download one for you , i suggest either Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal (unity/gnome) or Linux mint Katya main edition (Gnome) not the DVD version.

Step 3 choose either live mode (can NOT save files and settings) or persistent (CAN save files and settings) I suggest persistent

Step 4 check all 3 boxes (waring it will erase everything on the usb drive)

Step 5 click create.

Yes it will do exactly that.
