My Girlfriend who spends a lot of her time on the Thai webboards pointed this out to me.

Yes... The Chinese are now packaging GHB the date rape drug, in purpose built packaging that basically tells its own story.

This is currently being smuggled into Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar as well as probably the rest of the world too.

I thought that the Chinese are pretty low and will stop at absolutely nothing to make a commercial gain, but this sets a new level.

The Chinese government have so far turned a blind eye to anything that threatens the west's economic stability. They actively seem to encourage the underground manufacturing of counterfeits with 'party officials' having huge stakes in the industry anyway. Considering that you must become a party member to get permission to do anything commercial in China.

At least they have had the sense to ban it in Thailand, but like anything here... It is only banned as far as the cost of a police bribe.

I wouldn't be THAT surprised, though, because just recently they got around the rules against LEAD in 'children's jewelry' items (think toy bracelets or keychain charms) by filling them with cadmium (against which there was no SPECIFIC regulation, natch, nor was there against making children's jewelry with plutonium, mercury, or poison-arrow-toxin, which are probably next).

That was after the whole 'let's put toxic plastic in the milk' thing.

Seems that China's going to learn about government regulation and consumer protection the hard way, but it may also be useful to let others watch & wonder if they really want that kind of 'light hand' from their own governments.

Anyway, my written Chinese isn't at all good, but it says something about students, little sisters, hundred uses or some such stuff. From experience i know that if its GHB most people will use it on themselves for the rush. But its hard to dose too much and it will knock you out. There was a time it was real easy to make yourself in the Netherlands.

Its not used much to knock girls out because it has a really bad taste and people would pick up on it right away. (plus that most normal people would not even think about it)

I just wonder what is the difference between getting a girl drunk and having sex or getting her to pass out (because of alcohol) and raping her or doing the same with this stuff. People seem to get more upset with this while in effect its both morally repulsive but done with a legal drug.

A bit more than 10 years ago, I went shopping in a Carrefour in China. Then I went to a Wall Mart, and the quality was a bout the same, terrible. I remember thinking how to explain to our quality controller that the shit these western stores sell in China, they don't want for the western market.

Now the quality really improved a lot and the young graduates we now hire are discerning buyers. So now when we have a quality issue, we just need to ask them, will you buy it for you ? No ? So it's rejected.

One last thing. Of course there are big problems in China, one that comes to mind is about the tainted milk. But when the manager of such company is caught, he is usually executed. In the west, I'm not even sure he will have a personal fine.

They've done studies in Western countries of people claiming to have been drugged, where they actually do tests, and it turned out almost everyone claiming to have been drugged had not been. In a UK study of 75 women who went to the hospital claiming to have been drugged, not a single one had been found to have any date rape drug in their system. They had simply been extremely drunk. Some had cocaine and other recreational drugs in their system as well. Alcohol is the drug people really need to worry about.

I imagine it would apply to the people in Pattaya claiming to have been drugged and robbed as well. If tests were done, they would mostly turn out not to have any drug in their system but a ton of alcohol.

Why would it be worth it. Taking drugs is up to the person in question but to use drugs on someone who is unaware of it is risky and unforgivable.

You are right if you dose GHB wrong (have to be really off the mark and usually it will make someone throw up and get rid of the stuff automatically) can be fatal.

Same can be said of alcohol though. There have been deaths in Holland because people drank too much alcohol at once and ended up in a coma and died. They have a term for it "comazuipen" = coma drinking
