Sick of always hearing bad news ?

Believe that Thai TV is dumb and useless?

Right now on Channel 3 the story of a little girl that was kdinaped by beggars. Following a TV program airing details of missing persons, she has been recognized by passer-by and reunited with her father.

Full story of the family who rescued the little girl, on Channel 3 right now

Bit in Thairath about it here, with a pic of the young girl being reunited with her father.

That figure on the left hand side of the picture. Just what the hell are we looking at there?

I see what you mean.

The answer is : it's time to change your glasses biggrin.gif

Talking about that, the other day in a restaurant, I was looking at a middle age yet quite attractive woman at the next table. Can you guess-estimate her age from the fact she needs to remove her glasses to read the menu ? Or does it really depend of each person ?

I have never felt the need to estimate the age of a woman, until she asked me to do so. And then, its "you are exactly NOT xxx"

Some people can see close-up things better than they can see things at a distance.

People who put on reading glasses just to read a menu, but otherwise can see fine, indicates that they have reached an age where the eye muscles are no longer as flexible as they used to be. This generally happens around 40 or so.

Trying to figure out how old a still attractive women is can be a hit-or-miss affair (bad pun), I try and look at her hands and neck. If the skin on these parts looks old, she probably is older than she looks.

Not that it matters so much.

The important thing is that a little girl has been returned to her father, safe and sound.

Whats the good news here?? did they catch the beggars and are they banged up?

Who cares? Vengeance and spleen do not make for good news, and for every villian we take off the streets, it appears there is another to take their place; so the long-term question is "what are we doing to eliminate future villains, not past villains?" THere is more rejoicing over one lost sheep who has returned to the fold than all those that were never lost...

The essence of Christianity is (tolerance, forgiveness and redemption). I don't know what moral background you come from.

Beggars easily blend into society. Hard to decipher who's who.

I like attractive middle age women they are so thankful later. Good news about the child being recovered, it seems Thais are taking a page from the west or where the beggars from Cambodia.

Sorry I dont believe in fairy tales, it sound s more like the essence of stupidity, "I forgive you for murdering my wife" and of course they will never do it again will they.

Get real, people that do this could not give a flying fig for anything except their own gratification be it monetary or otherwise.

The little 3-year old girl, Nong Pompaem, was spotted begging on the streets of Chonburi city by a laundryman and his wife who were out for meal with their daughter. They recognised the girl from the TV appeals and starting talking to her, asking her her name and where she lived etc.

Just then a man and woman, both aged about 30, appeared and grabbed the girl by the hand and made to take her away. The family told the couple to wait for the police, whereupon the man and woman fled, leaving the child behind. The girl was taken to the police station where she was reunited with her parents after being missing for a week.

The father is planning to ordain as a monk for 3 months to fulfil his vow which had been made in anticipation of her safe return.

Police are still searching for the couple.

Wow. The god of the Bible endorses genocide, slavery and sexism to name but a few. The essence of Christian morals?

I'm guessing you're more of an old testament sort of chap.

In my bible, those words don't actually appear, but then I'm using a James VI translation

Besides, since there is no god but God, then the god of the bible is the same one as the Koran, and the Daily Telegraph, and so forth, and you are free to ascribe to him whatever you choose in order to justify your own position

That's an other tv show ...

Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do,

Watcha gonna do, when they come for you.

Sixteen posts and not a good word about the laundryman and his wife. How about some credit where it is due? Does anybody know anything about them? They seem to be the real heroes of this story.

Yes .... it's great that people took the time to report this. Having a child kidnapped must be the worst experience imaginable.

And this trade is one reason I never give to street beggars with babies and children.

The TV show was about them, it was their interview.

They told their story, how they spotted the little girl, went to talk to her, followed the beggars in a park nearby when the beggars tried to take her away, even as they feared for their own safety.

They were not 100% sure that the little girl was the same as the missing one but they spotted a lot of bruises of her body so they decided to call the police anyway. When the beggars flew away, leaving the girl with them, they were just wondering what will happen to her if she's not the missing girl, but anyway it was better than to stay with the beggars.

An other day, there was a story about a motorcycle taxi driver who in a few years caught a total of seven petty thieves, the kind who snatch and run.

If you pay attention, there are a lot of good, extraordinary people in Thailand

And a couple of good tv shows too

maybe a nice story but your take that the essence of Christianity is T,F&R is a fairytale in my book.

...kneeling down to worship an instrument of torture?? some old guy in a funny hat saying you will burn someplace if you eat some wrong meat or ....,check out the neighbors wife/daughter or pig or something,Virgin births,?? hmmmm?

Christianity has probably killed more people through hypocritical "christianity" than from any other cause...Okay I know ...off topic   Gonna go drink some red wine a a wafer or two.....

It sure doesn't have the history nor principle character to solidify this statement.

You can't dump the OT just because it's inconvenient. Without original sin, what was the point of Jesus?

In any case, saying "I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword" (Matthew 10:34) is a metaphor is exactly..

you are free to ascribe to him whatever you choose in order to justify your own

Several years ago my wife and I were walking across a footbridge on Sukhumvit somewhere.....there was a little girl about 3yo begging with a lady and I cannot remember now exactly how we spotted it, the precise details...but she was bleeding or had blood around her vagina, I think she may not have had underpants on.....anyway, my wife went back and talked to the lady with her and got a story about infection and such and we left it at that, but were never sure and the wife was certainly not sure about it.

I regret to this day not doing any more about it and possibly even getting her to a nearby doctor for a quick check.

It was also in the more earlier naive days here when I did not know the extent of what went on with the beggar mafia.

Can we please remember that Jesus was born a jew, lived as a Jew and died a Jew. He did not intend starting a new religion ( so far as anyone alive today can tell ), but that was done by men wanting to grasp their own bit of power.

Having said that, I don't believe that God will send us to hell if we don't wear a funny hat and beard.

Of relevance to the thread is that although the heroes of the piece are probably Buddhist, they acted in a way that Christ would no doubt have approved of.

Police are still searching for the couple.

Thairath reported yesterday (31/08/11) that police arrested the husband and wife team who abducted the little girl after a member of the public spotted them begging from stall holders in a market in Lampang province and recognised the couple from an artist's sketch which had been circulated by the police. On arrest the couple confessed to abducting the girl and said said they took her because she was cute and they wanted a child.

Initially they'd travelled down to BKK from Lampang looking for work but became annoyed and upset when this proved unsuccessful and wandered on to Samutprakan province where they saw the girl and enticed her away with sweets.

Apparently they didn't plan on asking for a ransom or using her to beg, they just took her because at the time 'they were hungry and had no means of supporting themselves'.

Accused couple.
