Large explosion devastates UN building in Nigeria, many casualties feared

ABUJA (BNO NEWS) -- A large explosion rocked a United Nations building in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on late Friday morning, officials said, and many casualties are feared.

The explosion happened just after 10.30 a.m. local time, destroying a large part of the three-story building where hundreds of people were working. Casualties could be seen being carried from the devastated building.

"For the moment we can only confirm that there has been a bomb, but we don't have any more information to give you about numbers or anything else," said Alessandra Vellucci, a UN spokeswoman in Geneva.

Local media reports said at least 8 people were killed.

How sad. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and colleagues.

Any ideas of who is responsible?

People that fear social development projects such as education and public health?

Boko Haram, or whatever the local Islamic sect of Al-Qaeda is called, is the likely perpetrator.
