Chuvit slams police for delayed action against gambling den

BANGKOK, 28 August 2011 (NNT) – Rak Thailand Party leader Chuvit Kamolvisit has released a new footage showing gambling equipment being transported out of the Ratchadaphisek underground casino while criticizing the police for delayed inspection.

After presenting a video clip to Parliament during the policy debate on 23 August as proof of a gambling den being run in the Ratchadaphisek area of Bangkok, Mr Chuvit has unveiled his latest clip showing gambling equipment being moved out of the venue. He thus criticized the police for their slow responses, which allowed time for the culprits to escape.

Police inspectors were recently dispatched to the venue alleged by Mr Chuvit to be an illegal casino. The place was found to be large in size and located in a secluded area, but its interior was empty. However, traces of gambling activities were detected.

Mr Chuvit also declared that he would no longer bring up gambling issues in order to let the public observe relevant operations of the police by themselves. He insisted that he was only performing his duty as an MP by bringing to light prevailing social problems in the country and that he personally had no hard feelings against the police.

Never mind K Chuwit, every dog has his day and this being Thailand, there will be more rats nests for you to uncover. Seems that the police had fled the scene according to the report.

Keep up the good work and keep that notebook safe.

He appears to be backtracking a bit here in this statement. Maybe someone had a word in his ear that they would put something behind his ear if he didnt close his ears and stop talking about some cops business activities. Maybe....

Isn't this the guy that built an illegal brothel empire and got mega rich from it only because the police closed their eyes.

That's why he knows all their dirty little secrets.

yes

BANGKOK As the super-pimp who once ran Thailand's biggest brothel empire and then exposed the police kickbacks he had to pay for it to flourish, Chuvit Kamolvisit feels uniquely qualified to lead the country's fight against corruption.

And it seems he's now wanting to give something back. If he uncovers and exposes illegal activities, corruption etc., then why not, regardless of his own past history.

Or, is he trying to build a scenario whereby he gets big 'pay offs' to be quiet?

The police can make quick decisions on suicides, charges to be filed, taking personal belonging from the accident scene, supporting the music, jet ski mafia, as well as issuing traffic tickets, but a walk of a couple hundred meters to verify the existence of a gambling den is beneath their station.

The man campaigned on a pledge of exposing corruption, power to him. His contacts may be competing with the police alpha dogs as to who will mark the biggest tree, or most tires.

I think Chuwit probably knows better than most what fate could await him. I'm sure he has got some 'insurance' hidden somewhere and its existence would only come to light if something unfortunate were to happen to him.

A good friend of mine was a ranking officer in the Bangkok police department thirty years ago and he told me about some of the raids he went on. If the police don't know about the existance of a gambling den, it is legal. If the police know about the den and they don't pay, they are illegal and will be raided. If the den is late with payments or is short of money, they are illegal and will be raided. If they pay enough and pay on time but somebody reports them, they are illegal and will be raided but they will get a phone call first. The police took three days to go to the den Chuwit reported on. If the police want to know where the gambling dens are, all they have to do is ask a taxi or taxi moto where the closest one is. I can't prove it but I think sometimes, some policemen, get involved with ilicit activities and when the wealth is spread around, the superior officers look the other way. Thailand is a poor country and pay its officials poorly. Does that justify corrupt behavior? Not for me to say but they take me for a fool when they say there are no gambling dens in their districts. Every neighborhood has a gambling den, a house of prostitution, and loan shark(s). I'm from SE Louisiana USA and I know about endemic mafia and organised crime. Maybe that's why I'm so comfortable in Thailand; it feels like home.

Yes, indeed!!! The same one that turned his back on his sordid past because he hated the police corruption so much whereby they demanded 300,000 baht a month to turn a blind eye on the goings on of his empire and he decided to spill the beans on these corrupt and greedy parasites as he had had enough!! He is viewed as being a man of the people and a hero and "Robin Hood" type character in Bangkok.

He sold all of his massage parlours and sex dens and decided to be a "name for good" in Thai society by forming his "love Thailand party" whereby he has become a maverick defender of the people - set to fight against corruption in both politics and in Thai life. If only there were more people in Thailand like him!!!!

He will make enemies and endanger his own life by his actions but he deems it a worthwhile cause fighting for despite the potential troubles it brings with it. Good luck Chuvit in your campaign to rid Thailand of this evil practice!!!!

Little doubt those targeted were those 'not closing their eyes', in the past.

He's not making new enemies, but taking a swipe at existing ones.

Revenge is a dish best eaten cold and even tastier from a government perch.

Not to mention many casinos were recently closed to force punters to certain off shore gambling establishments, to furnish extra election financing cash in hand, invisibly, for whomever certain police segments were backing. Some may have done this in Uncle C's. domain to his detriment. It is a good stunt for being in the public eyes of course and takes out, or at least down a few pegs, some rivals or enemies in the local scene.

So he need not make this a crusade, point made,

and those not on his side taking a hit.

NEXT!

I am SURE he has hundreds if not 10's of thousands of embarrassing photos and videos and documents cached securely.

I agree that he is acting as a force of good at the moment - but am wary that every man has his price.

Besides, most pimps are not usually blessed with the best of morals.

Who are the police scared of?.....Nobody

why did they close this casino and empty it?....Because they are scared of the law?....I don't think so.

The police are the law and above everyone.

They could have left the casino operating and told Khun Chuvit and the media to piss off if they don't like what they see, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

He is past all that for sure. He fully admits he has engaged in some unsavoury activities previously but having been a victim of corrupt practices by the police he has turned against those propagating them like a "supergrass splitting on the mafia".

Judging by the number of posters along the 750 km main road between Sichon and Bangkok and in Bangkok itself then he must have spent a hefty amount of his money in his efforts to become an MP to fight his cause!! He cannot possibly return to his past ways as he will be watched like a hawk by some very interested parties intent on stopping his crusade by pinning something on him!!! He must be like the white suited, white knight Martin Bell from now on and must tread carefully at every avenue and in everything he does in his life from this day on :jap:

In the previous thread:

I note how the PTP led administration acted quickly. Nice change from the previous administration.

So ofcourse geriatrickid will now be back and slam PT and the rest of the government for their tardy approach to the issue. No?

Could PTP be regretting allowing his little party into coalition?

I do not believe that he is in the coalition.

He is not - he is proudly in opposition with the expressed intent to highlight corruption and inept governing by those that are.

No.

This is the guy who built up a legitimate massage parlour business empire that the police and others drove their dirtyhands into for cash pay-outs for "protection and safety", who then , after years of paying these scum, sold up, quit the business and entered politics to fight corruption and the circus of pantomime performers who make a joke of politics.
