Last night some Youtube vids failed to open..... It tried to wind up and even got to the point of inserting the length of the video......ie some connection to Youtube (and perfect internet connection in general). This morning the same thing. Now I think about it last night I was on iPad and now on Macbook. Is Youtube in meltdown? Cheeryble

browser ? is Flash installed ?

I went so far as to uninstall Adobe Flash and reinstall the latest.

I checked restore defaults for Java.

No go.

"An error occurred please try later"

On checking my iPad for Youtube and other vids they're fine B)

I'm mystified.....

Maybe you can try this: http://www.youtube.com/html5

You can tell youtube to use HTML5 (compatible with the latest versions of most of the browsers) instead of Flash.

I find it to work much better and that might be a workaround for you.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's not working....

I have a real clue though.

I went to the Mac shop today and told the Genius there. We tried a Youtube vid on the Macbook and away it went just fine.

Came home this evening and no go. In Firefox it goes to Youtube but fails to load. On several tries it's said the connection was reset try again. In Safari......wait a minute.....tried twice and got this:

Safari can't open the page.

Safari can't open the page "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/home" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.

Hmmmm.......

Just tried the iPad it loads but too slow to use.

Speedtest Macbook on home connection

download over 6meg

upload 486k

ping 76ms

ps: iPad has given up after 25 sec play in Atomic browser

Youtube app first didn't connect this time played 20sec now no more loading.

Still mystified.

Have been having the same problem on my Mac. Today tried wireless to my PC (not Mac) using Google Chrome (on same 3BB network in my home) and found that not working as well. The message on PC directed me to go to the wrench menu : options/under the hood/ and make an adjustment to one of the network settings. Sorry but while this has actually seems to have fixed the problem, for both PC and Mac (without even touching the Mac), having fixed it I can't get the help screen back to confirm the exact network setting that required adjustment. It was a box that needed unticking and if memory serves correct said something about improving service. Hope this isn't to vague and is of some help.

Sorry brain not working. Just been back to wrench menu and the relevant line is : "Predict network actions to improve page load performance." This can be found on the Mac from the Chrome wrench menu under tools/preferences/under the hood. Interestingly enough, having unticked the relevant box on my PC and finding Youtube to now work fine on both, this "Predict network actions......" option remains ticked on my Mac??? But it works. I'm touching nothing! If it works don't fix it is my motto!!

Thanks for the kind info.

I am right now downloading Chrome to mimic your actions.

In the interim I tried connecting by ethernet instead of wireless to the router.......didn't help.

Ah one minute remaining for Chrome.

Fingers crossed stay tuned

AH! download error trying again....fast though 290kb/s

OK

To try to do your WIndows thing I went to virtual Windows in Virtualbox on the Macbook.

Unfortunately I don't know Windows at all well and don't know where to go to make your adjustment. Please advise!

I then tried Chrome in OSX for the first time.

I first simply tried to run Youtube in Chrome. No go.

I then followed your instructions ....wrench....prefs.....under hood....but i DID untick the "Predict network actions to improve page load performance."

But still no go.....so if you could advise about the Windows actions exactly that would be great and I'll try in Virtualbox.

No guarantees it'll work, maybe I just got lucky but for windows :

Click the wrench symbol at top right of screen to open drop down menu

Select 'options'

From options select 'under the hood' (on left side of screen)

In 'under the hood' untick "Predict network actions to improve page load performance"

Then just close window.

As I said, this worked for me but I'm no computer expert and have no idea why it should have worked doing this in windows but not when following the same actions on the Mac.

Good luck

Hi Gmac

thanks for the help but I've come to the conclusion it's something about my internet connection.

Why? The Macbook doesn't get YouTube at all, but my iPad seems bad also. (It doesn't load YouTube video at all right now and I know was very slow at best the other day.)

A question to our experts.....

Is it possible for me to have a 6meg speedtest to Singapore and still have bad YouTube?

Is it possible the "overseas share" or whatever to the US is poor for me on my 599 baht connection but OK for others a mile away?

OK a real discovery!

After calling my provider Triple T yesterday and being told to turn off my router, they'd reset and call back in half hour, 75 minutes later I just left the house.

In the evening I called again. Oh they'll call you tomorrow. Hope Thailand keeps exporting rice cos they ain't going to sell anything like services.

But my brain started working on this problem of why the speedtest seems good but no Youtube nd had an ah-ha moment.

I googled for alternative video sharing sites. Found Veoh and Vimeo for just two. Then remembered there are also porn streaming video sites.

So I tried Voeh and Vimeo and they both load fine.....and tried Redtube and Youporn (purely for diagnostic purposes!)

THe results?

Veoh and Vimeo and Redtube load fine. Youporn doesn't load at all. And of course my real problem (as I work from it sometimes) Youtube doesn't start either.

Strangely whilst yesterday it would sometimes go to the Youtube page OK but not load, today it won't even get to the page "The connection has times out"

Also odd I notice Youporn is nothing to do with Youtube as a company and I see that for Youporn my browser is trying to connect to w3.mict.go.th.....a Thai site presumably (perhaps Thailand has banned Youporn and it's a separate issue....maybe I'll try with a proxy server).

I've tried clearing all cookies etc.

Hmmmm

Last try here I think and more real info....

Today I took the Macbook out with me.

I stopped outside a WIFI place and within seconds was downloading YouTube like a good'un.

So it's nothing to do with my Macbook.

What can it be? Any sort of router setting? Or the provider?

Seems to me it's one of the two....

I have the same problem with Safari. I think it has something to do with Thai censor and some conflicting issues with Mac OS. Try reload several times....

The same has occurred to me about an unretracted censor problem but with no evidence.

I'm also wondering about router port probs.

Next step I shall have someone bring another Macbook over and try Youtube on my wifi.

I have had the same problem on my PC for a couple of weeks now. Any bright ideas out there?

Hi I'm also having problems loading YouTube vids via apple tv, iPhone and iPad. My Internet connection is fine too, 3.5 mbp download/ .5 upload. I am also having problems connecting to Facebook via iPhone / iPad, but edge connection works great! I'm also puzzled by this I had been out of thailand for about 2.5 weeks prior to which it worked fine..
