BEIRUT (BNO NEWS) -- Six people were killed on Tuesday during a shootout over a long-standing land ownership dispute in eastern Lebanon, local media reported.

The shooting happened at a cemetery in the town of Khraibeh in the eastern Bekaa Valley as two families visited the graveyard as part of an annual tradition on the last day of the Ramadan feast, security sources told the Daily Star newspaper.

The sources told the newspaper that six people were killed - five members of the Kanaan family and one from the Issa clan. Among the dead was a child identified as Ahmad Kanaan. In addition to the fatalities, the newspaper said six people from both families sustained injuries during the shootout.

According to a military statement, the army was forced to intervene to end the shootout. The military sealed off the area and launched a major search, it said.

The saying comedy equals tragedy plus time springs to mind, and some news items make great strides in minimizing the time element. <_<
