President Obama's uncle arrested for drunk driving

FRAMINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTS (BNO NEWS) -- Police confirmed on Tuesday that an uncle of U.S. President Barack Obama was arrested in Massachusetts last week, allegedly for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a Framingham police report, Onyango Obama was stopped on August 24 after a sport utility vehicle he was driving failed to make a proper stop at an intersection. The arresting officer, Val Krishtal, said the man had red and glassy eyes, slurred speech and appeared unsteady on his feet.

Police said Obama, 67, failed several field sobriety tests and blew a reading of 0.14 percent on a blood-alcohol breath test, which is above the maximum blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent when driving in Massachusetts.

News reports said Obama - who is originally from Kenya - is staying in the United States illegally and had an earlier removal order against him. He is now being held without bail at the request of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to the police report, Obama was offered a phone call after he had been arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield the right way. "I think I will call the White House," he said, although it was not known if he actually made the call and if so who he spoke to.

Onyango Obama is the half-brother of President Barack Obama's father, Barack Obama, Sr.

Distant? hmm uncle is in the same blood line as mother and father, in the country on an overstay same as an other relative which who knows what ever happened in that situation. agree it is not a major crime however it is worth some ink.

I doubt the President would be involved in dealing with a ticket or an immigration issue. Someone further down the food chain might try and make it go away, but the big guy or those directly under him. First, it would eventually hit the press and then they have a real problem.

The immgration issue would probably be a bit easier to fix if his family members asked for assistance. The Immigration folks have a lot of discretionary powers. It's also a little harder for the press to get information on these issues. Immigration law is complicated and most reports either simply list people as legal or illegal.

I remember his half brother Samson getting refused entry to the UK for an alleged sexual assault on an earlier visit. Perhaps they can have a family photo wearing black and white stripes as the main man himself is criminally negligent if nothing else.

Obama’s uncle quietly released from jail - ONYANGO OBAMA

Officials released President Obama’s uncle from Plymouth County jail yesterday after holding him for more than two weeks on an immigration detainer for violating an order to return to his native Kenya in 1992.

US officials refused to disclose any other information about Onyango Obama, who remained in the United States undetected until Framingham police arrested him Aug. 24 on drunken driving and other charges.

Yesterday, federal immigration officials refused to say whether the 67-year-old Framingham resident posted bond, whether they are keeping track of his whereabouts, or even whether they are still seeking his deportation, raising questions about public accountability in the case.

I actually agree. The POTUS should be able to get his uncle a green card or at least some type of long term visa. If people complain, too bad. Is it fair? Life isn't. Family is family. Leave the DUI as it is though. That's something that every citizen who drives has to worry about. That would be a real vote loser to get his family off that. But a visa? Big f'n deal.

THAT SAID, Obama once wrote about his Grandmother in Kenya living in a dirt floor hut in an AIDS invested village. <deleted>!? The guy had enough money at the time to set Grandma up in a proper home in a safer place. Not cool.

House chairman: Obama uncle’s got ‘backdoor amnesty’

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Friday that President Obama’s half-uncle, an illegal immigrant who was picked up but has reportedly been released from jail, appears to have benefited from the new “backdoor amnesty” the administration announced last month.

“It appears there is a double standard — one for President Obama’s family and one for everyone else,” Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, said. “Last year, President Obama’s illegal immigrant aunt was granted asylum and now his illegal immigrant uncle has been released from [the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency] custody, even though he was arrested by authorities for drunk driving.”

Mr. Smith said the case will be the first “test case” for a new Homeland Security policy announced last month that gives immigration authorities more discretion to let illegal immigrants go, rather than pursue efforts to deport them.
