Anyone any ideas how a lowly Police Capt such as Chalerm made his millions?

Go steady my friend, you may well find some Red Shirt vigilantes come knocking on your door asking why you are asking awkard questions.

Even worse, those paragons of virtue and valiant upholders of the law, " The Chalerm Boys" and GK may come calling tooph34r.gif

If he can track down some undesirable foreigners and deport them too, that would be a bonus.

Undesirable foreigners = foreigners who don't share your political opinion.

Removing people who don't agree with you, and feeling it your right to do so, just as the reds who assaulted two men making a political statement that they disagreed with, also felt it within their rights to intervene physically, speaks volumes about what you and what they really think about democracy.

You (and they) wouldn't know democracy if it came up and bit you all on the backside.

Hmmm..... so we now have a fugitive criminal's sister as Prime Minister and his ex brother in law as the police chief. That other well known tax dodger Al Capone would have been very impressed!

In the thread:

Red-Shirt Leaders, Shinawatra Friends Appointed

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=493532&view=findpost&p=4653054

they forgot to include Shinawatra Family in the title

Advisers to the Prime Minister:

General Chaisit Shinawatra

In addition to the above cousin, the current Foreign Minister Surapong is also a cousin.

from an article on the last TRT/PPP/PTP questionable political appointments, which included Chalerm's son, Wan, first go-round with politics, (this week he's been appointed to a new Adviser position in the latest go-round):

Thailand's 'ugly duckling' government gives ministry jobs to wayward sons of politicians

Associated Press

14-FEB-2008

Prime minister Samak Sundaravej has himself called his new government an "ugly duckling'' Cabinet.

Chalerm, Wan's father, has been dogged by media reports that he made a fortune in the gambling business. He was once charged with a gambling offense but never indicted.

I would suggest GK that you fall well into that undesirable lot, everyone is entitled to their opinion but your opinion seems to be in the minority and your comments on the present shambles and history of is a joke, as far as I can see from near all of your posts, seems there has seldom or never been a time when the obvious <deleted> is staring you in the face, you post and support it. better you do as my slogan suggests--bash when needed.

Three candidates to replace national police chief: Chalerm

By The Nation

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung on Thursday said he would nominate three candidates for the position of national police chief.

"The appointment of a new national police chief should complete by the middle of this month," he said.

The three are presently deputies of incumbent national police chief Generak Wichean Potephosree. They are General Prewpan Damapong, Generak Pansiri Prapawat and General Phanupong Singhara.

Prewpan, elder brother of Khunying Pojaman na Pombejra, ex-wife of ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, is a top contender for the job.

Chalerm said Wichean might be transferred to his new job as secretary general of the National Security Council.

"Among the jobs being offered to Wichean, I think he is suitable to lead the NSC because he is a prudent planner," he said, dismissing speculation that Wichean might become the premanent secretary for Tourism and Sports Ministry.

Tawin Pleansri is the incumbent NSC secretary general. Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana, who oversees the NSC, said he would not reshuffle security personnel.

Reacting to his pending transfer, Wichean said he expected to know about new job assignment by next week.

He also said all three candidates to replace him were well qualified.

Proposed new police chief known in 1-2 days: Deputy PM Chalerm

image_20110901131417239FA5C0-C738-FD17-DF9DA3CF11C457D8.jpg

BANGKOK, Sept 1 - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung on Thursday said he will submit the name of the new national police chief for the prime minister's consideration within a few days.

The deputy prime minister who oversees police affairs made his remarks following reports of the likely transfer of the current police chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree to another post after Rakprathetthai Party leader and party-list MP Chuwit Kamolvisit showed a video segment recorded at a casino operating in the heart of Bangkok.

Mr Chalerm stood firm that there's no friction within the National Police Bureau regarding the top post and that the transfer is meant to put the right man on the right job.

Citing the latest survey of police officials which indicated that deputy police chief Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong is most qualified for the position, the deputy premier said the opinion poll result would also be considered in deciding who will be selected the new police chief.

Mr Chalerm suggested the outgoing police chief should better take the post of secretary-general to the National Security Council (NSC) than the permanent-secretary of the Tourism and Sports Ministry as he is a good planner, but not keen on suppression operations.

The deputy premier said there will also be a reshuffle at the deputy police chief level, while the annual police reshuffle will be done by mid-September.

He however did not state clearly regarding the fate of the NSC chief Tawin Pleansri, suggesting that he would have resigned from the position if he were Mr Tawin who was also secretary-general of the Centre of the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES).

CRES was set up during the Democrat-led coalition government of Abhisit Vejjajiva to handle the demonstrations of the Red Shirts, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), during the then state of emergency.

Mr Chalerm reaffirmed he will nominate three candidates eligible to become police chief to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for her consideration.

The three police generals are Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong, Pol Gen Panupong Singhara Na Ayutthaya and Pol Gen Pansiri Prapawat, according to Mr Chalerm.

"The prime minister will make the decision on who will be chosen," said Mr Chalerm.

Amid mounting speculation that the police chief will be transferred to supervise the NSC, Gen Wichean on Thursday said he felt more relaxed now and that all three candidates to replace him are qualified for the position.

The police chief refused, however, to comment on his earlier remarks that he would seek justice as he was pressured to leave the post. (MCOT online news)

Brilliant reply; Asked whether he was forcefully squeezing Wichean out of his job, Chalerm said: "I am not a masseur."

It is obvious to any disinterested party that the out of control gambling operations indicated that the man couldn't keep corruption in check. If the next person cannot do the job, he should be fired not given another government position where he can botch up the job.

Hopefully, if there are corrupt officials implicated they will be charged. This corruption is just out of control.

How would a board react to the "CEO" appointing their own relatives into top management positions?

Why offer a job to someone you are essentially sacking?

Why? Because it is all a political farce to benefit the Shinawatras, and giving him a new job gives him good reason to go quietly, without fuss, and without telling us what he really thinks about it all.

Your hero's brother in law is coming. Sure enough, life will be a dream then and corruption will be eradicated in no time....

Hardly my hero. However, if the gentleman can do a better job, then more power to him. If he cannot, then he should be terminated and replaced. If he can track down some undesirable foreigners and deport them too, that would be a bonus.

Which 'undesirable foreigners'? Sounds as though you have someone in mind. Mongers?

the outgoing bloke is pissed off as he obviously hasn't recouped the investment on the downpayment he had to make to get the top job. Shifting him sideways to a crappy ministry is their way of ensuring that he'll eventually break even.

For the incoming mob, it is more about maximising revenue streams while you are in power.

Doing a better job? Not likely.

money and power, this is all this is about.

These people simply don't understand the word 'enough'.

Yingluck has an unbeatable majority, and if she wants everyone in her family to have a ministry, Army division, or telecoms franchise to play with, all she has to do is take it easy, at a time frame that people can accept.

But no, she (or those pulling the strings behind her) has to go out and bust everyone's chops in the most obvious way possible, causing resentment where there doesn't have to be any if she used a skerrick of common sense.

It's almost as if it's deliberate -- a slap in the face to those who aren't toeing the line.

I wonder how long it will be before the Yellow Shirts hit the streets again.

Methinks before this years end.

Perhaps sooner, thier constraint is commendable.

Provocations are daily now.

It can NOT end well that is obvious.

Causes problems. Will do again.

Don't know where to fall on this one....

Party A : In office and running things with endless casinos being operated under his nose. A bit odd as it seems every noodle vendor has to pay money to the police. Seems odd they are not aware of multi million baht casinos .....Unless ............. he is fully aware and is receiving his share of the tea money.

Party B: Appears to be a case of blatant nepotism.. The sad practice of nepotism just does not seem to work well in a efficient government. All it does is allow the elites to continue to have a great spot at the feeding trough. And their idiot offspring to continue to drive Ferrari cars.

This is just not going to end well. Also having Chalerm in a position of power is simply lunacy carried to the logical end. That is like the head fox deciding who will be in charge of guarding the hen house.........

Chalerm denies pressuring police chief to resign

news2011-09-01_00-13-48_255409010010_Chalerm3.jpg

BANGKOK, 1 September 2011 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung has dismissed a report that he was pressuring National Police Chief Police General Wichean Potephosree to resign from his position.

Speaking to the press, Police Captain Chalerm stated that he would say for the last time that the right persons should be put to the right jobs. He said the decision on the transfer depends on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The deputy prime minister added that so far Police General Wichean has not yet accepted the offer to sit in the post of Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports. He confirmed that he did not pressure the national police chief to resign as rumoured.

Police Captain Chalerm nonetheless expressed his opinion that Police General Prewpan Dhamapong is very good at narcotic drug suppression while Police General Phanupong Singhara Na Ayutthaya is also good at crime suppression so he cannot say who will take the helm of the national police.

The deputy prime minister also confirmed his readiness to answer any queries of the opposition and stressed that he does not abuse his authority as criticised.

PM Leaves Police Chief Transfer to Deputy

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra insists that the government has never planned to replace the police chief, saying the issue will be decided by Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has affirmed that the government had no prior plan to remove national police chief Police General Wichien Podposri from his post or interfere with the annual police reshuffle.

Yingluck said she has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung to oversee police affairs and decide on any necessary transfer.

Yingluck has also denied the speculation that deputy police chief Police General Priewpan Damapong is the choice for the next police chief. Priewpan is brother of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's divorced wife.

About the report that the government is planning to appoint Wichien as secretary general of the National Security Council, the prime minister said nothing has been discussed yet.

She added that even though Wichien has done his best, the government would like to step up the national drug eradication effort.

At the same time, no meeting of the Police Commission has been scheduled yet to discuss this issue.

About the appointments of prime minister's special advisers, Yingluck said that there has been some discussion on the issue.

She said she is currently directing ministries on the implementation of the government's policies.

Yingluck said the government is operating as a team for the people's interest and is not looking to spawn disharmony with its appointments, transfers or promotions of officials.

Prewpan vows drugs crackdown to show results in three months

By The Nation

Deputy national police chief General Prewpan Damapong on Thursday pledged to show the results of his crackdown on drug trafficking following his appointment as the new national police chief.

"I am confident the drugs suppression campaign will work within three months," he said.

Prewpan said he did not want to comment on his pending replacement of incumbent police chief Generak Wichean Potephosree for fear of fuelling divisiveness within the police service.

"I would like, however, to thank past police chiefs and well wishers for supporting my promotion," he said.

He outlined his plans to crackdown on illicit drugs, saying his priority was to close off the trafficking routes along the bortders in order to stop illicit drugs from entering the country in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.

His other priorities were to intensify police checks at communities known for peddling drugs, round up drug abusers for rehabilitation and invoking money laundering measures against traffickers, he said.

He warned rogue policemen to stop getting involved in trafficking. He also ruled out a repeat of silence killings which were rampant in the war on drugs under the Thaksin Shinawatra government.

I hope the Thai people are now happy that they have voted in this government that they now have to live with their actions. The Democrats were not perfect but at least they tried to be honest and transparent. Now expect greater levels of corruption and graft. The Shinawatra empire is being expanded to dominate and run the country. Taksin was not joking when he wanted to run the country like a ceo; Shinawatra family group business=Thailand.
