I do have a strong distaste for those who have a bullying dogmatic approach, who never admit they could be wrong or that the opposing opinion might have some truth in it.

All of which make the News section a quite unpleasant place to be sometimes.

Despite what the angry brigade say Thaksin didn't become rich through corruption (like most Thai politicians, generals and senior bureaucrats)but through legal business methods.OK once he was rich there begins to be an argument.

Disagree. Thaksin's rise to extraordinary wealth was no different to that of the others you mention - other of course from the fact that his was more meteoric.

Corruption is rarely ever where the riches come from, at least not directly. Corruption is the facilitator. The catalyst. In Thaksin's case it was specifically getting a monopoly contract signed on supplying computers. That deal was the launchpad for all that followed. Now, do you really think that deal was clean?

No you are just wrong here.Thaksin did start off flogging main frames to the police force where of course he had many contacts. Were palms greased? Probably given that this is Thailand. But he became rich primarily through initiative, excellent business instincts and determination. It's just ludicrous to suggest the source of his wealth can be compared to that of the corrupt slugs in the military and bureaucracy who never "do" anything to earn it at all except accept kickbacks.Nobody has suggested Thaksin has clean hands (name one business man of consequence in Thailand who has).

ROTFLOL. I guess you do believe that.

And ignore the kow towing shots of Thaksin with the coup leader from '92 and sweet heart deals Thaksin got then. And all the obvious in your fact policy corruption he was involved with since to make those deals even sweeter. He did play the game harder than most.

You have to care about those you are beating and ruining,

to actually give a dam_n about the trail of wounded in your path.

And honestly, I hope there isn't a coup in planning, neither by the forces of power or some fringe-groups.

It is so much better to keep the pressure up and let the Reds strike themselves out. Implement their policies of failure. Maybe some financial disaster for a few years to teach everyone a lesson what happens when you try to eat without paying.

Well, one can dream...

Agree with 100% there. They have plenty of rope to hang themselves.

Also agree 100%.

One must just hope that the political self immolation happens before it spreads to take the whole country with it.

Robert Amsterdam posted a piece on NM. Obviosuly all the usual caveats as he employed as a player in the power struggle, but it is worth reading if you want to understand the analysis of how the Thaksin/PTP/red side view things and understand why they are doing what they do. Jatuporn isnt so much out of touch with the rest of PTP. He is on an extreme of what is said in public. The PTP expect to be brought down by extra-parliamentary forces at some point. Anyone following the news especially the Thai versions is aware of this 6-24 months are the mentioned time frames. Obviously either Jatuporn expects it earlier or is keeping the reds on their toes and not letting them relax and lose sight of the ball now they are in power. Of course if the PTP can get the bureaucracy to function for them as government then things may be different and they may reassess what they think.

Hopefully for all of us of course nobody will be silly enough to try and bring the government down through non-normal parliamentary methods as it is sure to be chaotic if an attempt is made.

Hopefully too the Democrats will use the time of this parliament to rebuild themselves as a force for democarcy and position away from linkage to old managed demcoracy systems, so that the next election can see a more competetive race

Quote from hammered:

"Hopefully for all of us of course nobody will be silly enough to try and bring the government down through non-normal parliamentary methods as it is sure to be chaotic if an attempt is made.

Certainly agree, especially the second paragraph. Dems need to really get their act together, get a lot more highly credible clean sincere people up front and build some balanced policies to gain the popular vote with workable items which have real value and at the same time have policies to build Thailand properly.

I believe abhisit and korn can be the leaders of this but they need to ditch suthep and quite a few more old timers.

People in the end get the government they deserve. We can romanticize about the Thai people all we want, and embue them with all kinds of virtuous qualities, but the fact of the matter is a plurality of them want a kleptocracy at this time as they think that will somehow benefit them. Hopefully they will emerge out the other side of this relatively unscathed.

Which makes your support of the current government all that harder to swallow. You can believe in one IMO, but not the other.

T. can't aim his wrath where he wants,

so he pick someone he can aim at.

Can't have a movement against what ever,

without someone to move against.

No hero without an arche villain to oppose him.

Shadow theater.

I see Jatuporns coming attack hasn't transpired yet,

fat little boy crying wolf.

And jayboy, you always (probably part of your stir antics) avoid to recognize that many thaksin detractors strongly agree that there is deep inequality in this society which needs urgent attention (and not handouts), but the same people cannot accept that jatuporn and his paymaster and thugs are in any way a genuine front for structured change - in fact just the opposite.

"Jatuporn claimed that the group consists of politicians and those who have power above the law."

"The red-shirt MP said, however, that the movement has no links to the Monarchy and there will be more clarity about this effort in December."

Who is above the law?

It can't be Prem, because he has links to the Monarchy.

It can't be Sondhi, because he lost many cases in court so not above the law.

it can't be Sonti, because he is a coalition partner.

Is it Thaksin??? No links to the Monarchy and above the law?

Must be referring to himself, and all of his instances of MP immunity.

Or total hot wind with no basis whatever, as per many occasions in the past from the red clown. But no doubt he can organize a doctored tape to back up his wind.

I am aware that no farang could possibly understand Thai politics, but I remain astounded that Jatuporn is not in jail, much less holding a MP position......His speech during the red shirt rally, telling people to bring a million liters to Bangkok to turn it into a sea of fire still amazes me. And now he is holding office ?????? If I told a million farangs to come to Bangkok and burn it down, I would be in jail for 10,000 years.

Regarding his "opinion" regarding the next government overthrow, he is probably right. I think the military felt this government would implode with the combination of cronyism and incompetence. They only need to bide their time, then come in looking like rescuers for Thailand with a coup.

Er I dont think Jatuporn said that

As odious as he is he has not been convicted of a crime and as such was entitled to run for office and he was duly elected under the legal Thai democratic framework

Why would anyone want to call for or support a coup in a country that wasnt their own to overthrow the government that the locals had elected? It is up to the Thai people and their elected reps to resolve poltical issues, or at least that is the constituional and legal way to do things. Criminal issues can be resolved through the courts or through legislation

indeed, despite many obscene things he has said, that particular speech came from someone equal to despise, but more of a chicken (Arisman), who was supposedly going to turn himself in by now.

dam_n !!! Sorry about that, I got my odious red shirt "politicians" mixed up..... Correct, it was Arisman who wanted to turn Bangkok into a sea of fire. Jatuporn wanted to level the city halls in the provinces.......

Bear in mind this thread is now two weeks old. You'd have been better off waiting forJatuporn's NEXT coup revelation which if my calculations are correct is due next week sometime.

Of all the Red Shirt scum, Arisman and Jatuporn top the list of the biggest scumbags.

Arisman makes the biggest noise and incites the Red idiots with the most violent of speeches. Yet he is the first to run at the sign of trouble. Coward.

Jatuporn hides behind his parliamentary immunity and of all the Red Shirts, had the least to lose. He knew that no matter what happened, he would never end up in jail. So to him, it wasn't much of a gamble. If the Red Shirts had got what they wanted during the May protests, he won. But they didn't but it's business as usual for this scumbag who never spent a day in jail.

Actually Jatuporn did spend some time in jail, though I doubt he shared the experience the general prison poulation did. He even managed to prop a fed pounds and went from lookink like some kind of grotesque pig to merely a piglet. That's all gone now of course. soon I imagine he'll be wishing he looked nearly as good as Dorian Gray's picture.

Thailand's generals warned: no coup

BANGKOK: As Thailand's ruling Puea Thai Party confirmed plans to enact legislation allowing it to have a say in military appointments, the exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra warned military leaders against overthrowing the government run by his younger sister Yingluck.

Mr Thaksin said the international community would not accept another coup by the military, which overthrew his democratically elected government in 2006, although he could not rule out the possibility because the military was addicted to power. ''Those who are addicted to ya ba [methamphetamine] will do anything to get the pills,'' Mr Thaksin said during an interview with the Bangkok Post at his base in Dubai.

''Similarly those who are addicted to power will do anything to obtain power.''

Mr Thaksin declared he had quit politics but raised the possibility of returning to Thailand after five years in self-imposed exile to avoid a two-year jail sentence for corruption - a sentence which he claimed was a political set-up.

Remember that the PTP, Jatuporn, the reds are all layers of the Thaksin onion which can be independently activated either separately or together to carry out Thaksin's wishes.

If the government collapses under its own incompetence then rest assured the accusations of coup will rise to a crescendo and Jatuporn will seek to activate the reds/red villagers to defend 'democracy' (Thaksin's interests).

The level of noise re threat of coup is raised in direct proportion to the uselessness of the government carrying out its main mission number one: bring back Thaksin.

The different crises washing up on the shores of the government are judged to the degree that they advance or push back objective number one.

Jatuporn knows this, this is what he is paid for, is loyal to and is acting accordingly.

The only problem is the government's incompetence will be shown to the country and it's very difficult to hide such problem. Forget about bringing the guy back, I would rather make this gov't show some result. I'm seeing more problem with this gov't than in other gov't in recent time. Heck, they got into a mess from the start, with their 300bth policy.

And the mismanagement of this present crisis has shown how incompetent they are.
