The sign in the above picture is put in 2 places.

One at the right hand side of the overpass entrance of the new highway to Bkk (when coming from Central Pattaya).

The other one at the left side of the road where you enter the new highway when coming from North Pattaya.

Apparently this means that bicycles, motorbikes and trucks with a trailer are not allowed on there.

When coming from central Pattaya one could argue the usefulness due to the way the overpass can be a risk to those type of vehicles, but I don't see the issue when coming from North Pattaya. Also, when coming from North Pattaya, the sign is positioned that it would also prohibit those vehicles to use the shortcut to the railroad bypass (when you keep left)...

Or did the cop on his white police bike put them there himself (they look rather cheapish compared to the other signs around there), as he was fining bikes one after the other just after the bridge over the railroad....

Quite interesting, motorcycles are not allowed on toll roads, but this part of highway 7 is not a toll road, so they should be allowed.

As for regular bicycles, who knows…, trucks with a trailer you see all the time on this part of highway 7,

at least until it becomes a toll road, just south of Chonburi.

Might be just as you suggest, the local BIBs looking for another revenue stream.

I have been fined for driving a bike on the highway between Nong Pla Lai prison and Siam Country Club.

The cop said "small motorbikes are not allowed on highway"

Wow, they could make a small fortune on a daily bases.

Every morning I pass at least 30-40 motorbikes between the beginning of #7 in Pattaya and Chonburi-By-Pass

so i'm fine with my 1100 Honda ? pain in the ass as usual, it's time Thailand revised their motorway/toll road rules to allow bike over a certain cc

Now Monty you have been around long enough to realise this would take some seed capital and some innovative thinking. Have they been visiting the regular place more often?
