Petchaburi Reviews Security Plan for Reggae Concert

The Petchaburi governor insists the province will continue to host its annual reggae concert on the beach to stimulate the economy and tourism as it generates over one billion baht each year.

He will revise security to make sure brawls do not break out again next year.

Petchaburi Governor Chai Panichpornpan said the province will continue to hold the annual Reggae on the Rock concert on Cha-am Beach as over one billion baht in revenue is generated each year.

The governor noted that security has to be beefed up to prevent brawls, which have broken out among the younger crowds two years in a row.

Meanwhile, Cha-am municipality joins hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to organize an oyster and squid eating and bird watching festival from September 24 to October 2.

The governor is confident that the event will bring more tourists to Cha-am Beach during the rainy-season and expects to see 100 million baht circulated during the festival, which is the same figure earned last year.

One billion baht - do they mean from just one concert? seems awfully high as that's the equivalent of £20.8 million...I think this figure must be exaggerated somehow.

I'm sure even massive charity concerts in the UK and other places don't generated that much....how can a single Reggae event generate that much cash...?

Perhaps they could employ another 500 security staff at 500 baht per day, so that's 500,000 baht for the 2 days, just 1/2000th of the 1 billion baht it generates....good idea???
