I just got a 60 day tourist visa in Penang and read on the wall of the consulate that I need to show proof of 20,000baht AT POINT OF ENTRY, I know I didnt do this before so I asked the immigration officer and he said nah they never check, but I want to be sure. Can anyone confirm that I do not need this, or the also mentioned outgoing flight ticket when I cross the land boarder near Hatyai???

Thanks!

These requirements have been around for years, so it's not something new.

I've done many border crossings at Sadao, on tourist and o-visas. Never been asked for anything. It's always been very relaxed.

Granted last one was in April this year, so it's a few months ago. But AFAIK, you don't have to worry about a thing.

Ticket is not required if you have a visa. Could be asked for visa exempt entry but almost never is. Money is required and can be asked but almost never is without prior notice or unless they feel you can not afford a tourist stay. You should have bank cards that you could obtain the cash (if not with you in cash/travelers checks) if required.

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months

- Visa application form completely filled out

- Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant

- Evidence of travel from Thailand (air ticket paid in full)

- Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family)

- Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary

from the webpage of Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however that is very seldom enforced by Immigration

officials at port of entry.

Most countries in this world require you have enough means to survive during your stay and/or a way to leave. Nothing special here!
