Hi all,

I am applying for a new work permit and now have to be tested for Syphillis. I went to the clinics around the area and was told that I had to go to the hospital for a blood test which I did and everything was fine apart from the long wait.

After speaking to a doctor friend, they said that a blood test is not required for the stage of Syphillis testing required for your work permit.

Just wondered if anyone else out there has had similar experience or does everyone have to get a blood test.

Thanks in advance.

At Bumrungrad, they dont test your blood - so I was told by a guy who recently had it done. The DR said he could tell by looking at him if he had it or not.

That's what my friend told me, and when I questioned at the hospital they said no, you need a blood test. It's a bit of a worry if certain doctors in certain hospitals don't know what they're talking about. But not a huge surprise rolleyes.gif

Blood tests for syphilis is now mandatory for both new WP applications and renewals. The same goes for Thais being employed by Government offices.

Renewals? I've not been asked for a medical certificate by labor/immigration for the last few years even though I have one done as the university wants one. They always toss it back to me as not needed. Guess I will find out in a couple of weeks when I do my renewal.

BTW - this is Chiang Mai

new regulations coming in October 2011, all renewals now require a medical certificate including the syphillis test and seemingly more paperwork required to obtain work permit from next month.
