If you read further into the article, it does explain some of the reasons for the high numbers. I.E. Manila->Cebu is a short flight, vs the alternative of a very long sea voyage...I've done both. Loved the company I met on the sea voyage though!!! ;)

Very interesting.....it appears that the numbers on the charts are seats per week?

I was always under the impression that two of the busiest city pairs were between Honolulu and Maui??

But maybe that is somehow not included in this report? If indeed it is seats per week than HNL/OGG would win hands downn with over 700,000 seats a week....not sure why lax/sfo would be included and not hawaii?...anyway, maybe i am missing or misreading something ??

107,192 seats are available per day to fly out of Kahului, HI connecting to Honolulu, HI

It is perhaps a little misleading, that they count airport-pairs, not city-pairs ?

For example JFK-LHR, rather than New York to London, ignores passengers flying from Newark or Gatwick, amongst others.

I don't think there are any NY - Gatwick flights any more.

Sydney-Brisbane is busier than SFO-LAX?

Really? That is the Brisbane in Queensland right?

Can we please get an emoticon for a headscratch?

You're right ! I'm out-of-date. I remember People Express & SkyTrain !

But there are 3 airlines flying LHR-Newark, which would not have been counted as New-York/JFK, in the survey.

What a coincidence. I am trying to book some trips Phuket to Hong Kong and the flight times I want are already booked for January. The costs are rather steep for asia too. It's a bit of a shock in a country where a roundtrip in business class on TG for HKt-BKK is only 12,000 baht or so and the fares coming back for HKT-SIN or HKG was several times higher. I sort of had sticker shock and poked around on AIr Asia. Aside from the lousy times., the extra fees really add up. The Dragonair flights out of HKG are almost sold out for the high season weekends. Imagine that and its only September. The TG booking website doesn't help either as I can't book HKG-HKT only HKG-HKT. I got my flight but jiminey, its awfully dear. They better serve more that a driued out dumpling on board. It's bad enough its the ancient AB300 flet that TG uses on these short haul routes. Wait until my friend sees the BKK-NRT costs. He's going to need his baby's diaper, even if he does purchase discount economy.tickets.

Good point. Some urban areas have have multiple airports, NYC area has 4 (last I counted), San Francisco Bay Area at least 3.

A few years back someone could save around US$100 by taking the ferry from HK to Macau to get the cheap AA flight to BKK.
