September 17, 201114 yr I was in my local*, and the barman says to me "This one's on the house, since its St Andrews Night and you're Scottish" and with the the munificent glow of the warmth that a generous spirit can draw from a good single malt, I said "and I'll have another, and so will these young ladies..." SC * not really my local, it was a train-ride away, but it had been my local to the office when we opened our first office in HK...

September 19, 201114 yr may sound a little spiteful . . . but this article raised a laugh; I have two family members flying to NZ on Saturday from UK for a month of travel and watching Rugby World Cup games. Fortunately between family and friends their only accomm cost will be $600 for a friend's apartment, 10 days, in central Auckland, a bargain. It was well-publicised how hotels increased their rates for peak times, eg increases from $200 per night up to $1500, as happens at most such events. Wellington hoteliers miss out on cup boom

Some of Wellington's leading hospitality companies say the Rugby World Cup has pushed so much regular business out of the capital that most days are quieter than they would normally be at this time of year. . . . Parkin admits weak occupancy might be partly his own making. The Museum raised prices well in advance of the Rugby World Cup to make sure there were rooms available for last minute international guests, who so far have failed to materialise.

September 21, 201114 yr I got a free mince roll one time in Dundee but that's not really a city...more Krakatoa without the bonfire... I think that's not really fair on Dundee. I look on it more as Mogadishu without the glamour.
