DummDays
As I have sometimes major Problems to stay connected to my TOT Internet, I am thinking about to establish/buy me an "Energency Internet Connection" Just Yesterday, there was a big Promotion Tour from True, pointing out, G3 is now established in Pattaya Can anybody recommend True or another Provider here in Pattaya for a reliable " Air to PC" Internet Connection? What Kind of Aircard ( USB Stick ) should I buy? Thanks for any Recommendation
lomatopo
It is a bit confusing; I follow the industry here and I often get confuddled. First off, 3G (AKA WCDMA/UMTS/H/H+/HSPA/HSPA+/HSDPA/HSUPA...) does offer high data rates, and it is not unreasonable to expect 2.5 Mega-bits per second (Mbps) downstream and 1.0 Mbps upstream. Howver most 3G data plans do have monthly caps, which when reached limit subsequent download speeds to 256/384 Kbps. So if you're looking to replace a fixed-line broadband connection (DSL/DOCSIS) 3G may come with some limitations. I believe both AIS and Truemove H offer 3G in the greater Pattaya area. Here is Truemove H's coverage map: http://www.truemove-h.com/3gwifi_network_coverage.aspx AIS operates 3G on 900 Mhz, while Truemove H operates 3G on 850 Mhz. Truemove H is available as post-paid only, for now (although their sign-up criteria seems limited to having a heartbeat) while AIS offers both post-paid, and pre-paid service, the latter via One-2-Call. It would be best to get an air-card which supports 850/900/1900/2100, but there are limited 'quad-band 3G' models available and they are a bit more expensive, as it would give you the most flexibility. You can slog through this website to get a feel for pricing, features, availability, note that they show which 2G and 3G networks are supported. http://www.totalaircard.com/ This air-card http://www.totalaircard.com/products/Vodafone-K4505-3G-USB-Aircard.html supports all four 3G bands here. Assuming Truemove H has coverage where you require they might be the best choice, for now. They have a 3 GB plan at 759 baht/30 days and a 5 GB plan for 899 baht/30 days. http://www.truemove-h.com/freetosurf.aspx Edited September 18, 2011 by lomatopo
