Ang Thong Governor Declares Province a Disaster Zone

The Governor of Ang Thong Province has declared the entire province a disaster zone and is requesting additional boats to rescue flood victims.

Meanwhile, the Lop Buri Provincial Governor has asked for a 60% increase in relief budget to compensate for rice harvests being ruined.

Ang Thong Governor Wisawa Sasisamit has declared the entire province a disaster zone.

Subsequently, more assistance will be allocated to the flood victims.

There are large numbers of victims suffering from the flooding, which has also caused important government offices, farmland and markets to become submerged.

Officials have requested assistance, especially clean drinking water and prefabricated bathrooms and boats.

At this time, they only have 200 boats and they are difficult to purchase due to high demand and increasing prices.

Boats now cost 4,500 baht each.

Meanwhile, Lop Buri Governor, Chatchai Promlert, said flood waters now cover 11 districts, which is 100 sub-districts, or 799 villages. Many areas have received assistance.

However, the worst hit areas are farms where run-off water has caused more than ten thousand rais of farmland to be under water.

A huge number of rice paddies have been damaged, which means that farmers will not be able to sell their rice.

For this reason, the government has been requested to increase compensation to 60% --- from 2,222 bath to 5,380.

The Lop Buri Governor is continuing to gather more information, which he will present to the Cabinet.
