Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

So I'm getting ready to send off my tourist visa application and had some questions. I'm from the US, I'm planning to use the Houston consulate again.

What I want to do is to get a one-way ticket to Thailand, and also purchase a ticket to Phnom Pehn to use as my "departing Thailand" ticket. Is this possible? Anybody know if they accept it? Last time, I showed a return ticket scheduled for 60 days from my arrival, and was granted a 3 entry tourist visa - but I ended up staying so long, that I had to buy a new return ticket rather because my original return expired.

Thanks for any info.

Does Houston require outbound ticket. You could buy a one year open ticket and that way you are covered for one year. The airline should allow you to board without a on going ticket with the tourist visa. I would check with houston about the need for onward bound ticket. Also you could check with Portland as well.

If you have a Consulate issued tourist visa you shouldnt need proof of onward travel, and if asked tell them you are going to Malaysia by bus at some point.

Although Consulate will often have ticket as part of documents listed they normally only require from third country applicants.

I have said this before but sometimes it's not the matter of having the return or onward ticket to show but it's the airlines that can be sticky. I live here in Thailand and just did a 2 month job in Kuwait, my company bought me my departure ticket from Bkk along with the return ticket for after the job was finished. When I went to get on the plane (Qatar airways) to return, they would not let me on the plane and told me I need to buy an onward ticket. Even though my Passport was issued in Bkk, my drivers licenses are Thai, my International Drivers license was issued in Bkk etc I had to buy a return ticked back to Kuwait before they would let me go (Thank god the company paid>)

moe666 had the best idea really.

If you have a visa, Tourist or otherwise, the airline will NOT prevent you from boarding, return ticket or not, per IATA rules. They are only 'sticky' when you expect to get a visa-exempt entry, and have no return ticket.

moe666 was incorrect. A 60-day Tourist visa is simplest.

moe666:

"The airline should allow you to board without a on going ticket with the tourist visa."

Sateev:

"If you have a visa, Tourist or otherwise, the airline will NOT prevent you from boarding, return ticket or not..."

"moe666 was incorrect."

Other than the wording, that looks the same to me. ???
