After obtaining a 90days "O" visa in Bangkok, having >400.000 THB on a Thai Bank Account for more than two months and complying with all requirements of the act, I was unable to extend my "O" visa - the only reason being that I had to leave Thailand to go to work after 3 weeks. The immigration officer in Chiang Mai, simply asked "are you here for one month or not?"

As I had to leave for work the answer was "no but I'll be back in just 3 weeks" - The immigration authorities were unable to check me on our address, thus unable to extend the visa - are the law like this?

I travel in and out of Thailand every 3 weeks, and for that reason I will, as a Danish citizen get a 30 days stamp every time I enter Thailand

- I just want to make a "o" visa to make my stay a bit more "on the record", but why is this not possible?

When entering Thailand on the 1st of September on my 90 days "O" visa that expired on the 7th of September I was only allowed to stay until the 7th, Ok because I expected to extend my visa, unfortunately that was not the case so I had to leave and reenter to get a 30 days stamp when my visa expired on the 7th.

Why didn't I get a 30 days stamp when entering on the 1st of September?

If I had entered on the 8th of September, would I have gotten a 30 days visa exemption stamp?

Normally, if you are not there for the house visit immigration will just interview the neighbours to check you are living with your Thai wife/child. That is the normal procedure, but every office has its own rules.

Did you have a re-entry permit, if so that is the reason they stamped you in till the 7th. If you don't have a re-entry permit, they should have stamped you in for 30 days if you arrrived by air or 15 days if you arrived by land transport.

You can obtain a non immigrant O visa from a Consulate - it is the extension of stay that is causing you problems as that is designed for someone staying in Thailand but you do not stay here more than 3 weeks at a time it seems. If you show your bank account to Consulate in KL they will provide a one year non immigrant O visa (with normal marriage/wife id/home register copies) and that will provide you non immigrant visa entry for each visit.

Thanks, for your reply - yes I did have a reentry permit.

I have just been in Singapore for a couple of days, work related. I went to the Thai embassy here and got a one year multi entry visa in just 27 Hours - however I might face the same problems when I will have to extend that visa next year?

Will I stil need a re entry permit when holding a multi entry "O" visa?

No re-entry permit needed or wanted - every entry gets a new 90 day stay.

You just obtain a new visa from Consulate next year. Should not be much of a problem.
