heres my thoughts on for what they are worth

expect an election next year

my thinking on this is as follows

this government is simply a vehicle to get everything in place for Thaksins return, its like a fore runner government

its not meant to achieve anything, they have been instructed to tread water and just potter along without doing anything to radical to cause a serious protest or a coup

the overall plan is to do very little except transfer Thaksin sympathizers into the top spots and by doing nothing they create a needy political atmosphere for real leadership

after Thaksin's return and having been cleared of all charges and the five year political ban has elapsed, he and the other 100+ banned thai rak thai politicians that are currently advising caretaker PM Yingluck will be free to run again

a new Thaksin led party will emerge, the caretaker PM will call an election, Phua Thai in its current form will lose ground wholesale, the new party will win by a landslide, no coalition with anyone will be needed

the current red MP's will be voted out by their own people in favour of Thaksins cronies

consequently Thaksin and the voters will have legitimately ditched the red MP's who brought him home and his thai rak thai guys will take their current spots and a new order will emerge

reds are very unhappy but what can they say?

they wanted Thaksin back and they were voted out buy their own red people in favour of Thaksin's ''real politicians''

thaksins happy, he wins by a true landslide, everyone is where they are supposed to be already under this silent coup that's taking place right now

thaksin and all his mates will be back and rich(er) in six months.

the red menace will be disbanded through lack of funding.

they are not needed now as Thaksin has got his own better equipped army to back him up

the reds will go back to picking rice, being treated like mushrooms and left wondering what the hell happened?

the Thaksin dynasty runs forever and ever and ever..........

Yingluck is a miserable failure. Her brother just proved it! Thanks bro!laugh.gif

Not really she is pulling off the job of being his front.

That it is believable by the average Somchai is all that is needed.

Really quite like the Wizard of Oz, behind the curtain till the little dog pulls is back, to reveal the charlatan, but he will STILL try and bluff till all hope is gone and then some more.

I'm sorry. I must have been asleep when Thaksin won the election. I didn't see his name on any of the ballot cards. I don't think he is an MP, and as far as I know, everyone in PTP keeps insisting that they are not representing Thaksin.

I'd be very happy if PTP was disbanded due to interference from Thaksin. They really aren't too bright and need to be shown the door. Maybe after a few more coups they will realise Thaksin is not an ally.

Whether or not T's coming back isnt the issue. I'm wondering how the Thais will receive him, many will be seething that's for sure.

IMO he'll be the most paranoid man in Thailand, and for good reason! I can't imagine how much security he'll need...remember how Seh Daeng went??? But in the meantime he'll continue to 'push the limits' as he did before, at everyone else's expense.

The really interesting thing ot think about is why is he doing something as brazen as this. We never get to see what goes on behind the scenes, but we know this a huge power struggle and this is a very high risk strategy. Why adopt one as high risk? Assuming of course the real story is as we are told in the English Language Thai media, which is not an assumption we can be sure on

Indeed.

Does he actually want a coup (serious question)? You've said yourself that a coup is not a viable option at this point, because public sentiment would be so against it. But these suggestions that he is offering advice, support, even instruction to the government, but is not involved in politics are making him out to be like someone "above" politics, or at least outside the present political spectrum. President, for example.

If a coup happens, I fear that it will be a very bloody one, and will make the events of last year look like a playground scuffle. No doubt its outcome, if it happens, will prompt a significant change in bureaucracy. Possibly this has been the plan all along. Remember the 100 Baht Thaksin bank notes? Plans of ruling for 20 years? I don't want to follow this scary line of thought, but one can't ignore current events.

Coup in this case may be short hand for the intentionally instigated trigger of a full civil war.

Or this is simply one mans ego so far round the twist he thinks 'his winning

a few points' means it is his right to unlimited 'winning' in the Charlie Sheen sense: Mad but not YET certifiable.

Quite plausible if there is no gross over reaching before hand.

But sadly, we are seeing that over-reaching growing by leaps and bounds.

I see an election too soon, but wonder who will still be alive to fight it out?

Surely only a matter of time before someone files a lawsuit on this one, and the circus can keep revolving.

Straight after the election, Peua Thai had the best chance to bring some normality to this country -- all they had to do was to keep Thaksin out of the picture. But they haven't, and we're all headed downhill again.

Unfortunately, one of the issues in the election was the Thaksin question. Everyone knew that a vote for the PTP was a defacto vote for the former PM.

Personally, I think that Thaksin should have kept a low profile for at least a year and to allow the new government to establish itself. However, the fact is, a major reason why PTP won was that it was a referendum on Thaksin. The Thaksin group won and now the government must deliver to these people.

Oh for god's sake, wake up. People voted based on the perceived benefit to *themselves*, not for the personal benefit of Thaksin. Even the flaky ABAC polls show that people want him to keep his nose out and let the government work.

a couple of perspectives to possibly look at

1. the Chinese family and the hierarchy they work under - ie from the top down - older brother tells younger members what to do

2. being a woman in Thailand politics - not easy - imagine telling well seasoned older politicians, police, military etc what to do - impossible -

many jockeying for the top job - many have been waiting in line for many years - many feel resentment, rejection and possibly a few looking for pay back

interesting times for Thailand

Who knows what Thaksin wants beyond returning, but dont forget he is easily the most popular politician in the country albeit with a fairly large minority who hate him

Shows how out of touch you are.

true in many case, but discussing with many Thai colleagues, well educated, senior management, there is probably another 20% who want the Khun_T back, when I ask them why, they refer to more affluent times, which was purely circumstantial, given the world financial climate at the time.

Yeah, I'm sorry GK, I agree with Crushdepth on this one. They voted for the policies, not the de facto leader - moreso I think than any other election in Thai history. Otherwise PT could have answered "no comment" on questions about their Thaksin plans, rather than give the "Thaksin is not a priority" line (which 90% of their actions at the start of their term strongly contradict).

I don't think that's fair. Thaksin is the most popular politician in the country (well, not in the country but you know what I mean!), and I'm sure that less than half of the country hate him too.

Having said that, I suspect he's the most hated politician around too, and that's saying something with the likes of Jatuporn and Suthep around.

He isn't the most popular politician, unless we only count a vocal minority and disregard detractors or other politicans with equal or higher level of approval but less direct vocal fans.

If each politician [currently or formerly elected] was polled in a 'Yes/No/Undecided' for approval against the population then I think some others would both receive more 'Yes' for approval as a lot of equal approval candidates receive less 'No'.

But give them some time, building up a personality cult - while attacking those that already have one - is the path that North Korea took and succeeded at...

That would certainly be an interesting poll to see and I'm sure that, whatever the results of the poll, there would be those who claim its inaccuracy due to factors like the wording of the questions and the sample demographics that the poll used.

I personally don't agree with your initial (perfectly valid) conclusion of the outcome of such a poll. I think that Thaksin would get both more approvals and more disapprovals than most, if not all, others. I have come to this conclusion because Thaksin's way has always been absolutist - "you're either with me or against me" - and this is a precursor to the personality cults to which you refer.

No one is above the law and least of all Thaskin or is shadow walking over this country.

This country does not belong to Thaskin nor his family and his butt wipers.

It actually belongs to the people! which was given with love from a Dynasty long ago. people seem to forget this and obviously Thaskin has no respect for himself nor anyone else.

i don't think there are that many pro-thaksin posters on this site tbh, some i'm sure, but most people i think you're referring to are anti-bullshit propaganda spouter's rather than pro thaksin posters.... a lot of posters will just argue an anti-thaksin post that they see as factually unsound and then be immediately branded, as you've so kindly proven.

and when i used the phrase 'bullshit propaganda', i'm not speaking about this topic, just in general.

as this topic clearly shows what was obvious to most, which is that thaksin has an involvement with this government... well shock horror

you won't get the same kind of knee jerk reactions you're trolling for, that usually comes from other types of posters.

Nonsense, a person that is truly anti-BS would argue against Thaksin and the current government - including the last - not ONLY post excuses and try to cast blame elsewhere.

No political party in Thailand has any interest in doing anything about corruption beyond talk.

Political parties are a reflection of society, and societal attitudes need to change before political parties will along with other bodies also change. It is not like political parties and those who engage in politics are doing anything different from a lot in other places. It is just they are a lot more visible and hence a lot more targetted by media than the corrupt in less noticeable places.

Lets also not forget the survey where most Thai people indicated corruption wasnt a huge issue.
