Re Entry For Work Permit

Featured Replies

Hi I searched but couldnt find all the answers, things have changed so much over the past 9 years I dont want to remember wrongly and make a mistake.

I am Canadian with a work permit and year visa

I am leaving for India October 3 - 10th and then returning

What is the best way to get my re entry visa and where should I go and how much?

Thankyou

Believe you have a one year extension of stay from immigration so the place you should get a re-entry permit is the office that issued the extension of stay. There is service at airport again but only during day/evening and a bit more expensive. Normal cost is 1,000 baht single or 3,800 baht multi entry.

ugh, what if Im in another city now? Do I really have to apply for a re-entry from the other city?

No, you don't have to go to the same place. Just go to the immigration office in Bangkok with your papers/books (Passport, work permit) they'll do it for you, takes approx. 3 hours.

And be aware that once you've got a re-entry permit you HAVE to use it otherwise you are requested to cancel it after it expired before applying for a new one. The cancellation takes approx. 3 days.

It's weird but it's like that.

You're right, that is weird. Hard to believe.

You used the word 'requested' instead of 'required'. Was that intentional?

Once it's expired, for all intents and purposes, it no long exists. How do you cancel something that doesn't exist?

"The cancellation takes approx. 3 days."

3 days to cancel it? All they do is stamp or write the word 'USED" across it, or draw a line or lines through it.

I didn't use or cancel one last year. Am I in big trouble?

For what it's worth, at least it made me smile.

This is the first I've heard of this. A re-entry permit is valid until the end of your current permission to stay. It permits you to leave and return without losing that permission to stay. At the end of your permitted stay you must either obtain an extension of stay or you must leave Thailand. If you obtain an extension, then you must also obtain another re-entry permit. I am not aware of any requirement to "cancel" an expired re-entry permit, even if it was not unused.
