Lite Beer Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Female and Child related news presentation in a lawful manner BANGKOK, 25 September 2011 (NNT)The Daily News newspaper yesterday organized talks on how to present news regarding abuse to women and children without being offensive. One of the guest speakers, Justice Court Spokesperson Sittisak Wanachakit, stated that the judicial circle is highly concerned about news coverage involving women and children. He suggested that a seminar be conducted to train members of the press on how to present news concerning sexual abuse and crimes. The laws concerning the coverage of sexual crimes have been revised and allows for more in-depth details concerning offenders. However, the writing styles by most journalists in reference to victims, in most cases, are defamatory. Ms. Paveena Hongsakula, head of the Paveena Foundation for Women and Children, stated that there was a marked increase in the violation against women and children demonstrating the deterioration of values in today’s society. She called on the media’s support in encouraging more family-centred information and activities. She voiced her concerns that the figure reflected how vile the Thai society had become, adding however that the media should never reveal personal information of the victims. News coverage should never reveal personal information or post pictures of sexual crime victims. -- NNT 2011-09-25
Nikki1611 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Where i work (TV news) we are not allowed to name the minors (victims) especially if the sexual offender is related (family member, relatives or school teacher) to the minor. Naming the offender could lead to the exposure of the child's identity. No interviews with the child, photos or personal information (school or address) are to be reported.

The original post was quite lacking.
Ijustwannateach Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Yes, I have often been aghast at how unprofessional (by my standards of how police reporting is handled in other countries) and prejudicial such news is here.

Tell me again why anyone would have to "teach" a journalist how to report a news story. They should already know the rules if they are a professional. Ahhhhha. That's the problem. no professionals.
